No clue where to have my wedding ceremony!

Kelly, on October 7, 2011 at 1:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

So I just got engaged and my fiance and I are trying to at least get the church and hall booked - problem is, neither of us goes to church. Although I know and love the pastor who baptized me and I would love for him to marry us, I'm not sure how that works. The church he is at is too far from the reception site to have the ceremony there, so now we either have to find a chapel, which I'm afraid might be tacky, or we can have him as a "guest speaker" at our wedding if we go to another church closer to the reception. Has anyone dealt with this? I thought wedding planning was going to be fun but it just seems to be one disappointment after another, especially since we're trying not to go broke on this day!!

A lot of churches do allow you to 'rent' their sanctuary for wedding purposes for a small fee. Most will even let you use your own paster/minister/etc. Do you have a few churches in mind that are closer to your reception site? Your best bet will be to give them a call and see if they are available for your date and whether or not they will allow you to get married there.

You need to figure out exactly what you want first. Try to get what you want and if you cannot, then you must compromise. If you don't want to do it in a church, how about an outdoor ceremony at a local park? I'm sure you will be able to find something, don't get discouraged, you can do this.

FYI, chapels aren't tacky at all. We have a chapel that is included with our ceremony to use as backup in case of inclement weather and it's a cute little thing :-D
