First off, please be considerate with your comments. Due to financial restrictions, and the BFE wedding location, I have decided to go without alcohol at the reception. Has anyone else done an alcohol free reception? Did you come up with any other fun beverage ideas? I am thinking of doing a lemonade stand with various fruits and syrups, but other suggestions would be appreciated!

If by BFE you mean in the middle of nowhere...I don't think it's fair to not even give your guests the option to drink just because their drive is long to get to and from your wedding. I would offer a small amount, but more than likely tour responsible guests won't drink much because they are required to drive after your reception.

I used to bartend at churches. I don't see the big deal. If they hold a liquor license, you can serve alcohol. I would think this is something you would ask before booking a venue.

@Lillian - I'm honestly kind of stumped on alternate drink ideas! At the dry weddings I've attended in the past I've just been served tea, coffee, water, and lemonade.

You could do lemonade station like you mentioned, or different flavors of iced tea? Or different types of fruit punches (with soda instead of champagne)?

@FiddinBritt actually I am a Wedding and Event planner and I would NEVER advise a bride that her reception is a thank you to her guest. Her reception is a celebration amongst family. Her rehearsal dinner is a thank you to her bridal party. Her stationary is a polite thank you to those that attended.

Unfortunately, I can not relate to someone saying thank you with scotch......

@JessieJay Let the guilty stand accused. If that is how you took my comment then I assume you have to deal. If you attend someone else's event you will eat and drink what they are serving or you are more than welcome to decline or leave early.

You may leave the event and go to a restaurant or bar and have your cocktail you were hoping for.

OMG @Pia, you are an event planner. Wow. May I suggest "Miss. Manners Guide to Weddings". It may be very good for your clientele, if you would like to keep them. Or David Tutera's book. I have worked with many wedding and event planners, and none of them would ever suggest anything less than what is best for all the guests. Good luck with your business.

It really is true that anyone can be whatever they want nowadays, even if they have no qualifications. But we learned that lesson November 8 didn't we?

We did an alcohol free reception (our family is very anti-alcohol), and we had tea, lemonade, punch, coffee and sparkling cider. You don't need alcohol to have fun! It was a lot of fun with our photo booth, and getting to visit with sober guests, and just eating, and we even had a game room and swimming pool for the kids, or whoever wanted to use them, so they had fun, and so did we!

My advice, It's not the original post but you've hit a hot topic.....and you won't change anyone's mind so it's no use attempting to explain your reasons, your mind is made up. If you didn't get the answer you wanted to your OP then google fun non-alcoholic drinks and stop responding to this one.

Oh... here we freaking go yup everyone that wants alcohol at a wedding is an alcoholic...

    awesome.

@Lillian, no.. we don't know your friends and family but if your bridal party drinks, and they are doing you the honor of being in your wedding, you need to host them properly. I don't know if this was mentioned earlier, but maybe talk to your venue about a consumption bar? That way you only pay for the drinks that are ordered, and since most of your guests dont drink, it shouldn't be that much.

You could also do 7-Up or Sprite, with different flavored syrups, or fruit smoothies, if you're doing a summer wedding!

@ELK yeah, it was a blast...it was 102 degrees outside, so almost everyone took advantage of it. The country club that we rented also had a game room, and we had a photo booth, so people were quite entertained! =)

Crystal- The venue didn't have AC? Please tell me these people weren't sitting out in 102 weather.
