NJ Seamstress?!!! Need Help!!

Candice, on January 31, 2014 at 1:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hello, So I live in NJ and most of my family lives in Georgia (Mom, sister etc). I took a trip down to Georgia a few months ago and tried on wedding gowns so my mom and sister could see. My parents are buying my dress for me. The place we are getting it from in Georgia is shipping it straight to me, then I will need to find a seamstress to do my alterations. This makes me freak out!! I don't know where to go and who is reputable! Im scared that going to a place that is different from where I got the dress that they might mess it up! does anyone have advice?! Can I take it to any bridal shop or would it have to be a private seamstress?

Where are you located in NJ? My bridal salon gave me a list of recommended seamstresses in the area and I just picked one yesterday- Maria's in Ewing, NJ. Do you know anyone in the area (work, friends) who's recently been married or has a friend who has? They may be able to recommend one. Otherwise, call a few local bridal salons and see if they'll make recommendations. I don't think you need to take it to a bridal shop to get it done well.

The bridal shop where I bought mine has a seamstress that they use. She has been doing a wonderful job on mine, but it's a bit pricey.

What designer is your dress and where in NJ? There's quite a few of us girls here from NJ, give us a little bit more info and I'm sure somewhere here can give you some ideas. Smiley smile

I don't know where you are. My dress was a nightmare when it arrived and I found a tailor in Weehawken, NJ. He was recommended to me as the only one who could fix the dress and he did miraculous work at a very reasonable price. I drove 45 minutes to get to this guy but it was worth it.

I've also heard good things about Ally's in Hoboken. It's a bridal shop, but she'll also do alterations on gowns purchased elsewhere.

It depends on what you find expensive and what you need done. I'd give her a call. You can just make an appointment with her and she can give you an estimate.

According to one of these weddingwire reviewers who shopped around, her alterations were cheaper than other places she checked. She also seems to get really good "value" ratings, which is usually the first thing to drop in WW reviews.
