New york winter wedding in central park

Nichola, on August 11, 2015 at 12:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 48

Hi there...getting married on the 1st of December in central park (coming from Scotland) I have my wedding dress and a shrug to wear as I know it's going to be very cold, just wondering if anyone has any advice about Footwear? Is it unrealistic to wear heels?

Thanks in advance

Are you getting married outside? Because your guests are going to hate you. It's going to be very cold and very icy.

Probably would not be advisable, you would need to keep an eye on the weather. i would guess that in Dec its going to be somewhere around freezing to 40 degrees F.

eta: if you are inside heels probably wouldn't be a problem but i would still bring a nice pair of warm boots.

Don't get married outside in December. Winter weddings are great though - just inside

I'm concerned. I don't live in NYC, but I do live in NYS. We were under three feet of snow that time last year.

Yeah, it's probably going to be very cold, snowy, or icy.

It will be cold. Maybe if there's no wind and the sun is it out it won't be too bad. Will it only be you and your fiancé or are you having a full, formal, sit down ceremony?

If you want to wear heels/cute shoes maybe look for some closed lace up wedge bootie types to give you traction/warmth.

You may need a permit to do that. And not a good idea to wear heels. Snow is likely.

I live right over the border in New Jersey and in December it is very cold, near freezing cold. Is this a ceremony for guests or just an elopement. If it's guests, please consider an indoor option.

To truly answer your questions, I wouldn't do heels! You are going to get frostbite. Think of a boot or bootie option.

It's just the two of us, bare in mind I come from Scotland...cold I can do Smiley smile just didn't want to be silly and Wear heels if it might be icy or snowy. If it is 3 feet of snow we have a backup so we can get married indoors Smiley smile

There is a possibility of snow, but that's hit or miss. I would plan for no heels just in case! There are lots of cute and warmer options!

Do not recommend. Do not wear heels. Will you have guests or is this a private ceremony? You mention coming from Scotland so I thought maybe you were eloping. If you are eloping and you really want to get married outside in December, go for it. But I'd recommend wearing a wool cape or a very warm stole/shrug over your dress and boots under it. Even then, I'd keep your ceremony short. Even with a 15 min ceremony you are looking at a longer time outside walking to your ceremony location in the park. If you are inviting guests to your ceremony, do not have it outside in December.

Just get a cute pair of white furry boots/shoes. You'll probably want to wear tights or something under your dress so they could even be a little lower, they don't have to be big ol' hulking boots. There are wedged snow boots with traction soles.

Ano I guess it's a chance we are happy to take to have an outdoor winter wedding. But our officiant was so helpful and suggested finding a back up so that if weather is not the nice winters day I imagine we can get married indoors. We shouldn't be outside for long tbh just the ceremony and hopefully some photos.. Again weather permitting. We have a permit for central park and have organised a vintage yellow taxi to take us and pick us up Smiley smile

Since it's just the two of you, I think this will be romantic. Central park and NYC has a true charm in the winter.

But please don't freeze yourself out-- that takes all the romance out of it. Dress warmly, including footwear and enjoy your stay in NY!

I think it would be cuter to wear white boots instead of heels for an outdoor winter wedding. You definitely risk it being icy.

Honestly, snow and ice in early December in NYC is uncommon. 2/3 of the last winters were much worse, but I don't know if those were just freak winters or if they are the new normal. Usually we don't get a lot of snow until January. I still wouldn't plan to wear heels. Cold, yes. The first week of December is usually when I start wearing my winter coat instead of layering sweaters and a fall coat.

Yeah i am in Boston and we didnt get snow till January/ Feb last winter, so snow and ice wouldn't be my biggest concern but i would be concerned with freezing my toes off.

Yay another central park bride. I haven't seen anyone else on here doing this. My plan is to wear a low heal, I think it will also depend on what location you pick and your dress, maybe a wedge would be safer. I'm doing an October wedding in the park and going to Belvedere terrace which provides a bit of shelter in case of light rain, it's a bit of a walk so would not advise this for a December wedding as it could be slippery and hard for people to get to, but if you picked the ladies Pavilion or other location that's a bit closer to curbside I think you'll be fine. Weather is hard to predict but that's part of the beauty (we do have a back up plan if the weather is horrible). Some of the best pics I've seen are with a little bit of snow. There is a great blog I think it's called Wed in Central Park that gives more info on the different locations, also if you go on trip advisor there are tonnes of trip reviews in the New York City Forum for UK brides who got married in the park with lots of advise and tips. Best of luck with all your planning!
