New York City wedding day transportation

Katie, on September 21, 2019 at 11:44 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 10
Hi NYC brides! I’m getting married in Central Park February 2020 at a church in the upper east 3-4pm then the reception isn’t until 7pm. Do you think it’s ok to not provide transportation?! As the bride I was also going to just catch a cab/lyft myself to church. Thoughts?!

    Hi! Congrats!

We were going to get married on the UWS and have a reception on Chelsea Piers. We ended up just getting married at Chelsea Piers, but our original plan was borrowed from some friends of ours -

They got married on the UES, and reception in SoHo. They had a variety of ways people could get there: a trolley for the BP, friends designated to hail cabs for out-of-towners (I was one, they gave us foam Statue of Liberty hats, it was spectacularly hilarious), and friends designated to guide out-of-towners through the subway system.

For our transportation, I *really* wanted to use the subway, but DH didn't want to be on the train in his finery. (Plus, we ended up needing to carry a TON of stuff home.) We ended up with a limo to get us there (from 2 different locations), and then my MOH and her husband drove us home (they offered, as they did not want us to take a Lyft).

TL; DR: it's Manhattan. Just make sure your out-of-town guests have directions/guides!

Thanks, Rebecca! I like having designated people helping too. :-) Praying we don't have a crazy snow storm hahaha

    Hi there, Katie!

Is the reception venue far from your ceremony in the UES? Will it be easy to get to using public transport?

In the past, I’ve seen couples mention Uber Events in the community. Perhaps you could look into this and see if it is a good option for your wedding guests Smiley smile

The church is UES at 3-4pm then the reception is Central Park boathouse 7pm so they will need transportation for both 😬I think it will be fine but no public transportation. I’m going to supply detailed maps the boathouse gives us in the invitation. Thank you!!!?

I think its perfectly okay. There is plenty of time between ceremony and reception. Guests can do whatever they want/need in between. Plus being NYC there is PLENTY of transportation options. I think its nice because it doesn't force them to be anywhere in between at a certain time.

Hi, I think they have plenty of enough time to get to the reception on their own Smiley smile love your venue choice!
