Need to buy lots of ribbon...where?!

Danielle, on July 11, 2010 at 7:54 PM Posted in Planning 1 13

I am going to do bows on the aisle chairs, so I need to buy 2-3 inch wide ribbon, i'm guessing about 10 yards (for 12 chairs). Does that seem like the right amount? Any suggestions on how to get a discount on this much ribbon? I was thinking of just doing JoAnn's and using a 40% coupon...but I"m not sure how many yards I need.

I'd plan high and if you don't use it you can always return some. I'd say 2-3 yards per chair. (Figuring 2' wide chair going all the way around and the bow. That's at least 4 feet just to go around the back.) It would also depend on what type of bow and how big you want it.

Hobby Lobby- watch for it to be 50% off. Thats where I got all my ribbon. Nice thing is - they have some over by the wedding stuff that is 50% off when the wedding stuff is but also when the other ribbon (sewing dept) is. Not sure how much you will need, depends on how big your bows are. Mine tend to be pretty eloborate so I can easily go through a few yards on each one

I know of a website that sells 100 yard rolls for $18.00 but the largest I've seen there is 1.5 inches.

    Hope this helps

I'm not wrapping the whole chair, just doing a bow on the side (where the chair meets the aisle) to give it some added flair. 1.5 inches might work Valerie, because that's def a great price! Thanks girls!

I found great prices at www.jkmribbon.com, but the processing takes like 3 weeks. You also have to order at least $25.00 before shipping. If you spend over 50, there are discounts. Strongly recommended by professionals.

Why don't you just buy pew bows? They are already made with a clip to hang them on the chairs? The dollar store has them, or any party/ craft store will as well. They are usually under $1 each.

If you have ever seen a bow on a flower arrangement or plant, they usually have about 3 yards in them (that's about 4-5 loops on each side for a bow's total width of about 5 - 6in) which is not very big. I would always buy more the return later, or consider tulle bows. It's much cheaper and a little goes along way. If you choose other ribbon than tulle, than stick with the 1.5in (also called #9 ).

I vote Hobby lobby. Their ribbon is on sale every other week at 50%. I bought all of mine there a little at a time (literally...every other week).

If you do decide on Joanns or Michaels-try & google a 50% off coupon.Joanns accepts Michaels coupons & vice-versa.Hobby Lobby will only accept their own coupon.
