Need to alter wedding dress bust too big

Alyy, on March 13, 2019 at 7:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
How big is TOO big? I am looking at second hand dresses and most of them are C and D cups. I am an A cup. Can a seamstress just replace the padding or does she need to reconstruct the whole top?

I had the same problem. She is taking in the top by the sides of the dress, when she measured me, she pinned both sides and she will be taking in the seam from there. I do not have anything fancy on my dress, its a basic sweetheart neckline tulle dress with no beading or lace.

I'm not a seamstress, but I think that she will have to take it in on the sides and add cups..if I had to guess.

I would think it depends on the top and it's current structure. Mine is a sweetheart neckline and the sides are being taken in a little at the top to make it fit better along with cups to provide some more structural outline. I would think they would be able to make those adjustments without a whole lot of tearing apart and restructuring the top.

Agreeing with all the pps, Alyson, I think it really depends on the dress. I would take your dress in to a seamstress and ask them about the process so you have an idea. Or you can do that before you go and find a dress.
