Need red meat opinions!

Kate, on September 8, 2017 at 1:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

I don't eat red meat and neither does FH so I need some opinions from red meat lovers. We have already nailed down our first four options for entrees: rack of lamb, chicken, salmon, and vegetarian. The final entree will be either chateau briand or fillet mignon. Both of our fathers are busy drooling over the lamb so they aren't helpful haha. I was told chateau briand was a fancier/better cut, but I had never heard of it until we got our options list. So which do you all prefer??

We aren't doing red meat. But, filet is a solid choice.

They are both tenderloins. Filet mignon is a smaller part on the end. Chateau briand is the center cut of the tenderloin. I personally do not see why you need to have another meat option. I would probably go with Filet mignon because it has more name recognition for people.

Chateau if they cook it as a roast medium rare (I prefer rare but MR is safer for guests liking probably) and slice it. Yummmmmm.

Chateau Briand basically is filet mignon. The serving is a little bigger.

Even people who don't love lamb love rack of lamb. Great choice.

Do you need that many options? I think that's more than plenty!

There's virtually no difference. Either will be delicious!

Is one of them cheaper than the other? I'd go with that one.

We get 5 options per our contract and yes either one is the same price. We chose lamb for our dad's but wanted a more traditional red meat option as well. This way we have two red meat options and two non-red meat options (plus veggie option).

I would go with the filet just for the sake of name recognition. Everyone is familiar with what filet mignon is, but I would be willing to bet that some of your guests will not have heard of chateaubriand.

I'd probably go with fillet mignon just because more people will recognise what it is. Otherwise just ask your caterer which one people usually prefer.

That's what I've been struggling with because I don't want people to turn their noses up at something they haven't heard of before, but if it tastes better I want them to have the better one! Asking the caterer/venue (same for us) what is more common is a good idea.

I'd go with the filet. People may not get the other just because they aren't familiar, and that's a waste of an option if that happens

I agree you don't need that many options. But I would have a red meat. I've had apx 115 ppl chose the filet mignon. I'm offering chicken and a vegetarian. Only about 20 ppl have picked those.

You really don't need that many options. I think it's confusing to guests, honestly, and it can't help but slow up service.
