Need opinion on adding sleeves to my dress

Private User, on February 4, 2016 at 9:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 42

Have any of you ladies added sleeves or straps to your dress? I am considering adding lace cap sleeves to mine. Below is a picture of me in my dress, and a few pictures with the sleeves that I like. What do you think? Cap sleeves or off the shoulder? I would love to hear your opinions!

I added sleeves. Was so happy I did. I feel like it made it look more elegant and expensive. We just added a tulle strip had fanned it out.

They were meant to just be straps but fell down and were sleeves, ha.

    Thanks @Amanda and @HoneyLife!

I liked how beautiful and simple this dress is, but I was wondering if it was maybe too simple. I agree with @Swolemates2016 that the cap sleeves can make a dress look more elegant.

But maybe I don't need them. Hmm.

I think tulle sleeves would you dress look elegant. Kind of like the one the real bride had on.

I love the off the shoulder sleeves...but can you imagine how annoying they might be when you are dancing? Or hugging people? One girl I know didn't think about that and she couldn't raise her arms fully to give hugs...she hated the sleeves for functionality purposes. But they sure are pretty! I personally don't think you need sleeves. The dress is simple, but you look stunning in it!

@Kelly that was definitely something that crossed my mind. Off the shoulder sleeves are beautiful, but may not be all that functional. I know I'll be hugging everyone, and FH wants to be on the dance floor all night. Lol

I am thinking of adding sleeves as well, but I don't have any lace in my dress so might have to go with a capped sleeve with a lot of beading. Yours is gorgeous and doesn't NEED it, but I understand wanting it! Something my SIL did was she went with no sleeves and then for the reception added a bolero (is that the word??). It was pretty, and literally had the effect that it looks like you are trying to go for. It wasn't one of those full on jackets, it mostly just covered her shoulders . Here's the back of it (closest up photo I have).

ETA: You look absolutely gorgeous, by the way!!

@Holly that is gorgeous! Love the beading.

I guess I just needed some reassurance on the sleeveless dress. I've seen/heard so many comments lately about people being over sleeveless/strapless wedding dresses--that they look more like prom dresses? But I really do love mine!

You can get cap sleeves that snap on and off, so you can have it both ways or change your mind at the last second!

I'm adding sleeves to mine. This pic shows the "mock-up" we did and I'm ordering extra fabric from the designer to have the sleeves made. I liked the dress when I tried it on, but once we put a sleeve on it took the dress to another level for me.

I think your dress would look great with cap sleeves, but I suggest doing what I did and playing around with different styles and take pics. That way you get the full effect and can decide what you like best.
