Need advice on transitioning into DANCING

Tasha, on April 5, 2016 at 2:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hello beautiful brides! My fiance and I are not doing any first dance, nor any father-daughter or mother-son dances (just not our style). What would be your suggestions for transitioning into the dancing portion of the reception? Would love to have it smooth, but not sure how to do that. Also not doing the garter or bouquet toss either.

Ask your bridal party to help you start the dancing by doing the Cupid's Shuffle, Thriller, or something like that! It would be a fun way to incorporate your people, and then the DJ could open the floor up during the song!

A smoothe transition into dancing is WHY the host and hostess "open the floor" by dancing a few measures of the first dance. This is where the bride and groom's "first dance" originated: it is standard etiquette for any formal dance.

As Lizzie suggests, choose a dance that everyone knows. Dance the first eight bars with your husband. Have your wedding party primed to enter the floor and dance the next eight bars. Start gesturing to other couples to join you on the floor, or if they need clearer instructions have the DJ announce that all couples are welcome to join the floor.

I agree that a dance that everyone know would be a good idea, especially if you have the bridal party join you out there. You could possible do the cake cutting right before and have the DJ announce that after the cake cutting please join us on the dance floor or something like that.

Are you doing a bouquet toss? I saw a thread a while back that suggested having the girls all on the dance floor dancing after someone catches the bouquet and using that as a transition into opening the dance floor.
