Naturally Curly Hair... What to do, what to do???

FutureMrsKruse, on November 8, 2012 at 7:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Do any naturally curly girls have ideas on what to do with their hair or tips on what you did for your wedding? I'm not 100% sure I'm going to wear a veil for the ceremony/at all. We are getting married in a Catholic church but honestly I don't think it would be wrong if i don't wear a veil. Our church is in a way "casual" there are no pews or kneelers just rows of chairs. It is a mission church - our priest is not there full time. There will be kneelers for my fiance and I on the altar to use during the ceremony though. I'm open to the idea of wearing my hair down, half up/half down, or maybe in a chignon/low updo. Any DIY ideas or internet resources would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a picture so you can see what my curls usually do! Thanks for reading. Smiley smile

Hi Michelle! I am getting married next October and I too have naturally curly/wavy hair. With mine, you never know what you are going to get. One day, the curls turn out lovely, the next day is a total disaster. SO, I am planning on half up half down to tame some of the bulk. But I also want it blown out -- so it isnt stick straight, but styled. I can do it myself with a round brush, I am just choosing not to. Maybe you could do the same? If your curls are consistent and you love them, totally go for it! I straighten my hair probably 50% of the time, so its not like I will look not-like-my-self if I have it blown out with a wave/curl at the ends.

I , too, have curly hair. And not those cute curls that look pretty but u tamed, frizzy, wild curls! They resist all product! I never know what my hair will look like. For our wedding I had my curls blown out. It was perfect. My hair was straight but still had body. Unlike when I flat iron it and its stick straight and flat. Try having it blow straight with a few curls added here and there!

I think you should do how you feel the best. You can let it curly and make a chignon in the back, or you can make a side chignon and add a crystal comb on the side, it really depends on how you feel the best. If you feel like making it flat a bit, you can go a head and do it, but the hair is seen better in the photo when it has body, mine didn't have too much body and i kinda regret i didn't do it curly a bit.

Jessica i appreciate your love for animals, for dogs. I too have a dog and i could not imagine my life without these creatures. Like you, i have a passion for dogs, it makes me feel safe and more sensitive.

I wore mine mostly down, but can't find a decent picture...this is the best of my hair I could find on this computer. Excuse the expression (I was blowing kisses at my cousin, but the camera caught a weird time.)

Think about what makes you feel gorgeous in general. How would you wear your hair for a first date?

I also have frizzy, crazy curly hair, and my idea of ultimate sophistication and beauty is when my hair is pin straight. So I probably had the most un-bridal style of all: hair down, blown out straight. But that makes me feel like a million $. So think about that first, before the dress or the veil or the church.

We used my natural curl to our advantage. I got up and showered and used my spray gel as normal. Then my friend came and used a flat iron to help some of the more unruly curls so everything was uniform. Throw in a couple of bobby pins to keep it out of my face and voila! There was my hairstyle. I didn't use a veil either, but had some bobby pins with pearls on one side.

    Hi Michelle!

I, like you, have naturally curly hair. I would recommend doing an deep conditioning session before your wedding - so if you chose to blow it out it won't be dry. I know that when I blow dry my hair it tends to become very dry and then when you add a curling iron it just doesn't work. Be sure if you chose to blow it out and then use a curling iron to never ever use a straightener or else your hair will fall very quickly. Just blow dry and get to it with curlers/curling iron.

If you want to keep your hair natural on your wedding day- I highly recommend using Ouidad products. They are like magic and make my hair beautiful and bouncy.

Hi Michelle, I recommend keeping your curly hair. What I usually do with my curly hair clients is work with the curl. If you go over the natural curl with the curling iron it tames the frizz an improves your natural curl. You want to look like yourself and feel comfortable!

Hi Michelle...Im a stylist based in Rhode Island. I actually just had a bride a few weeks ago who had SUPER thick, curly, long hair and she didnt want to straighten it. She wanted to wear her hair half up/half down, and work with her naturally curly texture. So what I ended up doing was just going section by section, starting at the bottom of her hair, and wrapping it around the barrell of a curling iron, not putting the hair inside of the iron...just wrapping it around the iron. That gave her curls a little hold and definition. The iron was a smaller size, not too small though...I think about 5/8". I used a detailing cream to keep the frizz away, and as I went through each section, I sprayed with a light hold hairspray. Once I was done, I finished off with a quick shot of a firm hold spray and I scrunched them up so that they would hold the shape! I hope this helps!!
