Name Changes-- Keeping middle name or taking maiden name as middle

Mrs.SoonToBeW., on May 17, 2013 at 12:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 32

Hey ladies

Are you guys planning on keeping your middle name or taking your maiden name as your middle?

I was thinking about keeping my middle name and maiden name and taking on my new last name. Therefore, I would have 4 names?

What are your opinons?

I don't usually use my middle name but I do have attachment to my last name. I'll be taking my current last name as my middle name and his last as mine. I thought about keeping them all but that would be soooooo long.

    Soon to be W..

I am thinking about doing that also.

Just adding my last name now as a second middle name... idk yet I am having a hard time thinking of even changing it!

I don't have a middle name, so I will take my maiden name as my middle name and change my last name. So glad it was that easy!

Ok so here's a twist. I've been married before and my children and I currently have the same last name. I still want to be readily identified with my children so am electing to keep my current middle name as well as my current 1st marriage name (added to my middle) and add my new married name. So in essence I will be "First name+middle name+children's last name+new married name.

FH and I already discussed it and for those wondering how I got him to agree to it I had to help him to see it from my point of view. Yes he was against it when I first mentioned it b/c all he could see was my "ex's name". So I wrote my name on a piece of paper above my children's name as it would be after marriage w/just his last name. Then I wrote it hyphenated with my current last name and showed him each paper seperately. I asked him on the 1st who is related He stated those at the bottom (my kids) then showed him the other piece of paper with my name hyphenated and I saw the light bulb come on.

I don't care for my middle name - but it has significance to my mom as it was her late mothers name. it would probably crush her it i eliminated that. i have attachment to my last name just because its what i'm use to, and im not a fan of h's last name...but in the spirit of tradition i changed my last name. i'm sure it will grow on me!

I really like my middle name (as evidenced by the fact that I use it here!) so I'm keeping it. I'm just changing my last name, keeping my maiden name as a second middle name would just make it too long in my case.

@ Roe G. I was wondering how I would work that out as well. I still carry my name from my first marriage because of my children. This sounds like a conversation I will have with FH tonight. Thanks

I like my middle name. I actually like my middle name more than my first name.

So, in saying all that. I'm keeping it and changing my last name : )

I love my middle name, and hate my last name, so I will be just trading last names.

I will be keeping my maiden as my second middle name. I will have a VERY long name but I lost my dad recently & I will honor him by holding onto his last name.

Thinking of dropping middle name using maiden as middle and getting new . The thing that bugs me is all my degrees have my middle name or initial --- will it be confusing of bad?

Forgive my ignorance, but I am german and we don't get to change middle names easily.

Can I keep my maiden name as a new middle name? I don't have a middle name. But my new last name wouldbe my last name, no hyphenated last name - right?

I already have a hyphenated first name and no middle name. I think the shuffle to shift my maiden name to the middle and tack on a married one would just be too many letters for me. I wasn't sure if I wanted to change my last name, but FH was seriously bothered that I was thinking of not. Lots of thinking later, I'm going to. I think it's important for us as a couple, but there's a fair road for every couple to choose.

@Gabriele, yes me and you are in the same boat. I don't have a middle name either so my current last name will become my middle name and FH's last name will be my last name.

    SO:

First Name, Maiden Name, New Last Name

My maiden name will be my new middle name...

but I won't forget my old middle name, I just don't think I can legally keep more than 3...if I could, I would, but I live in Texas.
