My Wedding Dress won't get here in time : (

Private User, on November 13, 2014 at 11:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I called the store where I ordered my dress from months ago to check on the status of my dress. Originally, I bought the dress with the promise that it would be ready in the middle of November. Today when I called the woman said that the dress "would be in the country December 20th and in the store about a week later". With Christmas and New Years eve in the way I really can't see getting my dress before the New Year, Oh yeah and did I mention my Wedding is January 10th?! HELP! WHAT DO I DO?!

What? That's ridiculous, they need to get your dress there on time - especially if you've already paid for it. Unacceptable. Call and speak to the manager!

They told you it would be in the country December 20th? Where is it coming from?

What was the expected arrival date of the dress? Did they know your wedding date when you ordered it? That's cutting it way close, and def no time for alterations...you need to discuss your options with a store manager, asap.

edit: sorry, read over the mid-november part. yeah, if they promised you mid-november and it's coming in a month late, that's not cool. You should definitely let a manager know you expect them to make it right, which means either helping you find a new dress, or putting a rush on getting the original in on time. Make sure they know your wedding date too, so they know what time line they have to work with.

@BunnyLove, most dresses are made in China (or other Asian countries).

That is ridiculous about the delay though! They should give you your money back if they can't get it to you on time, or let you get a "off the rack" dress from their store.

It's an Alfred Angelo dress (Be Warned). They say they there's nothing that they can do. I haven't spoken with the manager yet, I plan to tomorrow. I'm hoping to just get my money back, I'm sick of dealing with these people.

Oh that is awful! I would definitely go there in person and let them know that if you can't have your dress by your wedding day that you want your money back.

I spent five years working at a bridal boutique. Alfred Angelo makes beautiful dresses and has some of the best customer service in the industry. I think the store employees gave you a shipping estimate with having no real knowledge of the actual shipping date. And BTW, the folks at Alfred Angelo do not tell store employees if or when dresses have arrived in the country. It's not how it works or how they communicate. I have personally ordered thousands of dresses from them. The store is obviously passing blame for their error. You need to go into the store and have them call Alfred Angelo with you standing right there. You could call them yourself if you got the order confirmation number from the store.

Interesting! A friend ordered an AA dress for her wedding. She ordered the dress in January for a wedding in October. She had a rush put on it and she received it in August. I would definitely speak with the manager of the boutique.

I ordered my dress from Alfred Angelo and had no problems ! I ordered in June, they told me it would be there at the end of August, and I got it at the end of July. It literally took them only 1 month to get it in. No rush order.

But yes, you need to raise some hell. They told you it would be there mid-November. Since it's not, you need to demand your money back and find something somewhere off the rack. At least you still have a little bit of time for alterations on the dress if you do that.

Just guessing the store forgot to place the order. You should get your money back of course and hopefully you can find a dress in stock somewhere that won't need a ton of alterations. So sorry your are going through this!

Nothing they can do? Oh there's always something they can do. They may not be able to get the dress here on time but they can get you a suitable replacement off the rack with a significant discount.

Call and only talk to the manger. Most dress places can put a rush on dresses if it's close. If it's not in on time I would demand my money back esp if you ordered it in the proper timeframe an that there was no reason why it shouldn't have been in!

Omg I am so sorry!! I would def. go in person and speak with the manager ASAP. They should def. be able to put a rush on it. Def. have the manager call AA while you are there to confirm the delivery. I'm sure it is the boutiques fault so if they can't fix the issue I would demand a refund!

    Good Luck!!

I am so sorry that this has happened to you. If they are unable to get the dress any faster from the manufacturer make sure that you ask them to upgrade the shipping from Alfred Angelo to the shop. Depending on where the store is located it could take up to a week to get to them once it arrives at the vendors facility. The store should pay for the over night delivery since they appear to have made some error.

I ordered my dress from Alfred Angelo on May 31. It is a 2011 Disney dress. They claimed that it would take 6 mos. Online the status changed to picked up in Sept so I kinda panicked and called the store and it def wasn't shipped or picked up. They said they anticipated it around Dec 1. I am actually surprised that they are so blase about your dress not being here in time. When exactly was it ordered?

It's certainly not ideal, but the dress should be in the store by the end of the month. Your profile says that you've ordered from a private boutique -- family owned -- so holidays or not, somebody will have to get down to the salon to accommodate you the day your dress comes in. My biggest concern would be timing for alterations. That is something they will have to deal with immediately (and no charge to you for rush alterations).

In the meantime, I would absolutely talk to the owner. She will probably tell you that it will all work out (and she'll likely do everything within her power to make that happen. Not having a bridal gown available for the wedding day is just about the worst thing people could learn about a bridal salon). Tell her that you want to make alternate arrangements, just in case. Pick something off the rack that fits perfectly or needs minor alterations. Chose a date -- say January 2. If your dress is not in, have her immediately alter the one off the rack (at her cost) and make sure you get a discount. My suspicion is she will want to fix this.
