My Wedding Colors Are Purple and Silver. Is is weird to put bridesmaids in purple/Maid of Honor in Silver?

Haley, on March 30, 2015 at 2:06 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

So the title says it all. My only full blood sister is my maid of honor. She is simple and likes the idea of swapping the colors but keeping the same dress. The availability isn't an issue. I've attached the dress I've been looking at (it can possibly change if the dress no longer is in stock when the time rolls around or it ends up being a bad dress). In my mind I guess I imagined purple being me and silver being him so putting my maid of honor in his color seems odd. I like the idea but I don't know if it'll be weird. Will it look weird or give off the wrong idea or is it a good way to differentiate the MOH?

Lots of Brides allow the maid of honor to stand out by wearing the same dress in another color. It would look cool if that's what you want to do. My only opinion on it is, if your maid of honor is demanding to stand out, she may be putting too much emphasis on herself and might cause drama on the day of if she doesn't feel she's getting enough attention. That would raise a little red flag in my mind, wanting a very relaxed day myself.

Thanks for the input everyone! For anyone who hasn't posted feel free to post your opinion. I'll still read it.

And about the demanding thing, she's actually very shy so she didn't want to have different dress. That's why I started looking for an alternate option. She was okay with the color swap though. I just wanted some opinions on it because I thought of it out of the blue and I was worried I was being a weirdo.

It might also be cool to have the best man match the maid of honor and have him wear silver and the other groomsmen wear purple to match the bridesmaids. That would be really pretty

Personally..... I don't like having the MOH in SUCH a different color. I guess i just dont see it as coordinating. and this is from someone who had her girls in different dresses all together, just some variation of dark reds. But if you like it, and she's comfortable with it, that's all that matters!

These are our colors also, my MOH is wearing lavender and the BM's are wearing purple so I think it will look fine.

Not weird at all, especially since it's a pretty color combination. If you'd like a way for your maid of honor to stand out, that's a great way to do it.

Not weird at all. I plan to put my MOH in a different color than my BM. My BM will be in blue and MOH will be in green. Smiley smile

It's not weird at all. If you end up with another dress you can have your sister wear a silver sash.

All my girls will be wearing plum however my sister who is my MOH will have a black band on her dress.

Does your MOH's skin tone lend to having silver? Some colors wash out some complexions. Like i look horrible in blush/tan/creams.

My Maid/Matron are going to have large bouquets.

Our colors were purple/silver/white. My MOH was in silver as well and it looked just fine. I had a small BP though: MOH and 2 BMs, one of which was my mom who wore navy blue. I think it's totally fine to not have matching dresses or colors...do whatever makes you happy.
