My new name won't match my name on my plane ticket.

So I've been trying to research this some in my downtime at work and really I may have to end up calling southwest. I will be getting married next month and want to change my name right away, but my plane ticket for November has my old name on it. Am I able to change my name on the ticket? I'm sure...

So I've been trying to research this some in my downtime at work and really I may have to end up calling southwest. I will be getting married next month and want to change my name right away, but my plane ticket for November has my old name on it. Am I able to change my name on the ticket? I'm sure this happens a lot with newly married people flying to their honeymoon. Has anyone went through this and what should I do?

Southwest says it needs to match and wont change it. While on my honeymoon my job booked a Southwest flight for me with my old name. Not knowing that I changed my name when I got back from my honeymoon. I had to use my passport on that trip since that was still had my last name on it.

Are you going on a honeymoon right after getting married? If so, you won't have time to change your name anyway. It tooks us two weeks to get our marriage license back in the mail and I needed that paper to even start the process. We're taking our honeymoon in 3 weeks and everything was booked in my maiden name so I just decided to not change my name fully until we get back. It's not the end of the world to wait to change your name for a little bit.

Southwest will do this for free- you fax them your new and old DL and your marriage licence.

Also keep in mind you cannot even start the name change process until you get your marriage license back which can vary from a week to almost six weeks.

I would just wait. I currently am signing two different names depending on the situation. I don't have my new nursing license, so at work, I have to match my credentials. I don't have new credit cards yet, so I still sign those with my maiden name. Everything else is my married name.

Same as others, I'm getting married next week but have plane tickets for end of October for another wedding, so I'm just waiting until afterwards. Not worth the hassle.

American charges a super hefty fee for name changes. Definitely wait until you get back to be safe!

Just wait. Who are you trying to impress? The overworked and underpaid TSA agent and/or southwest employee definitely doesn't care that you just got married.

Call the airline and tell them you have a legal name change this should not be a problem, and no fee associated, for them to change the name on your ticket.

Just bring your old ID with you if you're in such a hurry. I'm waiting 3 months to change mine because it will be my renewal time anyway.

    1. Do you have a passport in your maiden name?

    2. Is it a domestic flight?

If yes to both, change your name legally, wait to change your name on your passport and use your passport to get through the airport. If it's international, I wouldn't do it.

My FH surprised me with plane tickets before Christmas last year, and he spelled my name wrong.

Well..not wrong so much as he forgot to include my ENTIRE last name (its hyphenated and he forgot the -XXXXX) and they literally almost did not let me get on the plane. The only reason they let me through was because I happened to have my gym card in my wallet, which had my photo and only the first half of my hyphenated name.

Before we flew back home I called the airline and it took about 2 hours on the phone with 15 levels of customer service to get my name changed on my return ticket.

Seriously. Change your name when you get home.

I had the same problem. I'm changing my name ASAP because our honeymoon is not until December. I originally booked my plane ticket with the wrong name. I called Southwest. They changed my name with no fee in about two minutes.

I got married in October and JUST started the process to change my name. If only it was as easy as it is on Facebook.
