My dress is beautiful, but I don't feel beautiful in it...Update!

Mrs. Pezz, on August 29, 2013 at 9:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38

And I know I should...had my last fitting last night but I didn't really realize just how stuffed I looked until I left and looked at pictures...got my alterations done at David's and everything they did looked fine but I was hoping the panel being let out would help with my giant boob situation...I didn't say anything there because like I said I was hoping it didn't look as bad as I was thinking it did. I don't have a lot of faith that David's can do much...I am not sure if anything can be done! Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Here are my current ideas:

- Deal with whatever it looks like day of

- Try and lose weight (but honestly I don't really lose weight in my chest)

- Go to David's and demand they help me

- See another non-David's alterations place ASAP

- Cry

- Buy new dress (would rather not do this)

I know I am my own worst critic...any suggestions from this lovely community would be welcome, thank you all in advance....

I think it looks great. Maybe try some different shapewear under it? I had the best luck for my big bust with a corset from Fredricks. Maybe just changing the support will help you feel better.

It is a stunning dress and you do look very happy in it. I think it suits you.

That being said, it looks uncomfortably tight... I would go back and ask them to loosen it a little more.

You are beautiful!! And def too hard on yourself...but you are not alone.

My dress is almost perfect, but regardless of what others say I feel it is too "poofie" for my body. I'm going to cut one thick layer of tulle out from mine. If you are not happy in your dress then you will not be happy on YOUR day. And you do not want to be self-conscious - even if everyone else knows you look lovely. Totally understand you are not comfortable with DB. If you can find an alterations place that can take you on short notice then maybe see if something is doable. They may have a quick fix for whatever is bothering you.

You really have to feel you look good that day. If our reassurance is not enough then take a shot on an alteration.

You look beautiful, but if you're uncomfy, try new shapewear.

I also am busty and I bought a corset from Fredricks and it made me look awesome! But I would recommend wearing it under normal clothes to get used to it before your wedding day so you aren't uncomfy.

I think it looks beautiful on you. I can see what you're saying with the chest area - it does look tight. What Sarah mentioned about shapewear could help, or is there any chance that you could have it corseted up a bit looser? Maybe that would help...

Otherwise, if you're not happy with it, go back to David's and have them fix it - you paid for them to alter it, so if you're not happy with the result, go get it fixed. If anyone tries to give you a hard time or charge extra, ask to speak with the manager.

When I went in to pick up my dress from David's after the first alterations, I wasn't entirely happy with it, but the (seemingly inexperienced) alterations girl I had kept telling me it was fine and I didn't need anything else done (and was rude). I left, but called that night to setup another appointment and called to speak with a manager the next day. She got everything sorted for me and put some notes in my file so when I came back in, the seamstress would know what happened.

Umm...don't hit me, but I think you're right. Unless it's a photography and lighting issue, there appears to be bulging at the bustline.

Before you do anything else, take the gown to an independent, professional seamstress. David's seamstress has a vested interest in convincing you that it's fine the way it is, and she's done all she can. As soon as another seamstress sees the gown on you, she'll know whether or not it fits you the way it should. At that point, you'll be presented with your options.

Maybe try different shapewear or go to an alternate seamstress and see what their opinion is. Because DB's seamstress wants you to like what she did and will convince you that it looks good.

I agree with Centerpiece...take it to an independent seamstress that has experience with wedding gowns. I'm sure there's something that can be done.

Thank you all! And, haha, Centerpiece, no hitting at all, trust me, I think it is tight, I've dealt with stupid big boobs my whole life, this is nothing new, but I was hoping the panel move would fix it.

As for your suggestions, thank you! I am thinking about going to another alterations place...

For those that suggested it can you clarify what you mean by change shapewear? I have no bra on and just cups sewn in because the dress has boning in it and with the corset is nice and tight. I am thinking about maybe removing cups and trying something else? Sigh. I am wearing a shapewear that hits below my boobs down to my thighs, should i get something that would suck in my boobs?

I wore a corset bra under my dress and I loved it. It totally helped me look nice and thin. Smiley smile

I have a corset bra too, and it helped to make my boobs stand up but not out of the dress. I would also say maybe the corset back is too tight.

Definitely try another seamstress if you are not happy with DB.

I wore a corset under mine and it looked awesome, it really smoothed me out and covered all the bulges (my dress was tight so it made me not look like a sausage in the dress lol) and I was able to tie the top of the corset looser than the bottom so that my boobs sat in the corset without overflowing out the top of it.

Truthfully it looks uncomfortably tight and looking at the way it is laced I would say the alternations are not correct. Take it to a different seamstress. Get an estimate to get it fixed, then go to David's ask for a manager, show her the pics, show her the estimate and ask for a refund for the alterations that were done there.

Maybe change your shape wear.....are you actually liking the silhouette? I personally think you look nice, sometimes we want to look at ourselves in our wedding dress and see what we'll look like on our wedding day but you won't until then, with your shoes on, makeup and hair done, nails, etc.

The corset was pulled tight so that can be fixed, the problem is the top part of it has a snap to put the panel in place and that is too tight, the claimed the moved the panel out as much as they could so that is why I am not sure what else David's could do...bah! I am thinking I might start with calling them?

Dress is gorgeous! Makes the rest of your body look great, just doesn't seem like there is quite enough room for your boobs. Did you try taking the cups out? They would take up some of that space your boobs might need. It just seems to be squeezing your boobs instead of giving you great cleavage, as it should.

If you are not happy, go back and speak with the manager. If they can't do anything, I would take it to another seamstress. But I think you are being hard on yourself. It's beautiful, I think you just need to accessorize! I think once you get the whole ensemble together with hair and make up, you will feel better Smiley smile

Hey date twin!! I have the same problem, just in a different area... my problem is my bumb. I have got a lot going on down there, LOL!! I bought my dress at David's Bridal and actually took it to an independent seamstress. She had to put extra boning in and with my corset ties on the dress we are now doing 2 square knots instead of one. It'll be tied tighter up top and looser on the bottom. Maybe a quick fix like this would be helpful. Also, instead of cups, why not try just a regular strapless bra? Good luck on your big day!!!! I'm sure it'll be stunning as will you be Smiley smile

I think you are beautiful, maybe a suggestion could be ask them if maybe they could add in some straps or halter straps, maybe that would help your chest issue? But, I think you look beautiful though.
