My dress is an inch too small???! Be my internet mom please i need advice lol

Jennifer, on July 14, 2018 at 2:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 14
So my wedding is September 1st. Well I have this beautiful Maggie Sottero dress I landed on Poshmark. This whole time I’ve been planning to not alter the dress at all so I can resell it after the wedding. I’m 5’10 so the length is perfect. It’s just the backside won’t button bc it’s about an inch too small lol.. Tell me what to do ladies lol I’m thinking maybe I can manage to lose the inch by the end of the month? Also I don’t have any family here or close friends where I live, I’m a lone wolf so no one can help me properly try on the dress. Maybe I should go to a tailor ASAP? Just thought I’d make a forum post for some feedback. Included a pic of me attempting to close the dress lol.. need a internet mom to help me please!!

I would get it altered they can take a few months s so if you wait to long you may be stuck if you don’t loose a inch. but I am also a worry wart.

I think it depends on fast you could lose the weight to fit into it, but I wouldn't risk it with your wedding being in less than two months

Have you had someone help you ty to button it?? The way you’re holding it nothing would button the way your shoulders are! The top will definitely button it by the looks of it!

If it doesnt definerly take it to a seamstress asap- I’m really worried for you in this style of dress! There may be no fabric to let out Smiley sad

Definitely find someone to see if they have better luck getting it to button... the way you're twisting to reach could be the issue ... If you, with some help can get it buttoned, and even if it's tight than I say really work to lose a couple pounds by the wedding and you should be fine by the wedding. If you really can't get it buttoned I would get it to a seamstress STAT.

Another idea is maybe some shape wear... it might pull you in just enough...but I don't know if you could make that work since you can kind of see thru the back fabric... but with the lace it may not be too noticeable, and worth it if it solved the problem...

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Time to take it to a seamstress. Weight loss is chancey. You can't will away weight from your back. It might come from your face, thighs, or butt, none of which will help. Plus, losing weight for one piece of clothing, yes an important piece, just doesn't make sense.

Drink lots of water and eat minimal sodium. It’ll help you get rid of any of that water weight. And yes, find a friend or co worker that could help you button it. That will make all the difference!

If you truly can’t think of anyone you would be comfortable with helping you into the dress, you could try scheduling an appointment at a bridal boutique to try on accessories (veil, jewelry, etc, whether you need one or not can be your secret). When I went to the boutique that I bought my dress from and one other bridal boutique to consider veils, both boutiques encouraged me to bring my dress to the appointment to try on with the accessories.

Or call up a seamstress and make an appointment for a quote. They’ll have you put on the dress in order to see what work it needs and then give you the quote. Though it might be kind of funny if they help you into the dress and it fits and they are like hmmm, not really needing much work here... Smiley smile

I would bring it to the tailor ASAP. I have an illusion back as well which buttoned fine, but it made me look like I had like a muffin top on my back lol... so the tailor let it out right under where the illusion started to give me more room and it fits perfect now. Maybe yours could do something similar for you? To be honest though I think you may even fit the way it is if someone else can button you in

Take it to a seamstress asap! Looks like you’re really close to fitting but I wouldn’t want to add the stress of dieting to everything else going on! You want to enjoy yourself!

You may also want to get a crochet hook, makes all those buttons much easier to do up.

I would definitely start by asking someone close to help you button it. That way you can see exactly how much is too small. If you honestly think you can lose that before the wedding, I'd say go for it. But as others have mentioned, alterations can take some time so you don't want to wait too long if you do end up needing something! Can you still resell after the wedding if you have alterations?
