My boss fired my friend and offered me her job.

Holy crap. Would you take the job? He wants me to tell him tomorrow.. I would feel bad telling her but it is more commission. He stared off paying me more hourly then her (she got me in) because I have more experience than she does. (She's been with the company 3.5 years) I would feel bad taking it...

(She's been with the company 3.5 years) I would feel bad taking it but I could use the extra money for the wedding.. and I would only be working here until the wedding. After that I quit working and go to nursing school. I'm still in shock!!

I'm new to the company.. 3 months. This is there big clinic. So for them to offer it to me is a huge pat on the back. They only gave it to her a few months ago on a trial basis to see if she could handle it and it turns out they didn't think she could. She told me to watch my back because they fired her today over what she considers nothing and she considered herself a very devoted employee. So she's afraid that if I take it they will use me and do what she feels the company did to her. I have thicker skin and I've ran similar offices before whereas she's never done this kind of work so I feel like my background helps me out. I've covered her office for weeks at a time, and it was never that bad to me.

I'd take it. Any adult friend would be okay with it.

Yeah I would totally save all of the commission. I won't be working after the wedding. Just honeymoon then prepare to go back to school again so we will definitely need to save whatever we can. I'm huge into saving so It would be a blessing. She said she's fine with it, although by the tone of her voice I'm sure it stings a little Smiley sad

I wouldn't have even told her about this....she got fired today and you told her they offered you her job? Wow, that had to have been really hard for her to hear.

Look at it this way...someone has to fill the position eventually. Might as well be you. Like others have said, you were not the reason she got fired.

Og Sarah she specifically asked me if they did. I wouldn't just tell her. I'd rather her find out from me instead of Julie who the bosses would tell tomorrow and then she'd shoot her a text and tell her!!

Take the job. It's your career and she was obviously not doing a great job or else she wouldn't have been fired. It's okay.

Thanks for all of the input! I'm going to discuss it with my fiancé. It's a big leap office wise. My drive will shorten up about 10 minutes which will be nice. I think I'm going to end up taking it (:

Take it and run with it. Your friend should not be too upset about this in a weeks time.

You take it if you want it. Don't let her getting fired have anything to do with your decision

You should be the one to tell your friend but I think you should take the job. She may be upset at first but in the long run if she is really your friend she will be happy for you.

I don't know what I would do, but I've been your friend in that situation and I still feel the sting (it was 2 years ago). When that happened, I felt incredibly betrayed by the person who took a position that was initially given to me and then rescinded (ended up costing me sole authorship and panel presentation on a work I authored; what got published was a dreadful whack up of my work and the person who took the position made some serious errors in judgment that undermined the credibility of the organization). I would just expect some tension and hurt feelings. People's work is very personal, and I don't know if your friend would see this as professional as opposed to personal. I just know how I felt in that position, and it didn't feel good. At the end of the day you do what you have to do. It just may affect your friend more than she may let on.

I would take the job! School is expensive. Save as much as you can now.
