Must-play songs vs. Do not plays - Inspiration Needed

Alicia, on July 22, 2019 at 4:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12

Hello lovely WW friends,

I hope of your planning and festivities are going well! I'm starting to work on our reception playlist, and am struggling for some inspiration. What are a few of the songs you absolutely have to have played at your reception, and what are one or two of the "absolutely not" songs?

Thanks for your help!

(Please not hate for DIY dj-ing, that's just the way we do things in our families and friend groups!)

I didn't really have absolutely not songs. I had absolutely not artists I didn't want played.

I'm DIY DJ-ing too! I know the Cha Cha Slide and Cupid shuffle are really overplayed, but guests seem to really like them at all the weddings I've been to!

Right?! I'm so torn on line dances. I think they're so silly, yet they always get danced to!

If you like to dance to them at other weddings, then def put them on your playlist! Just not too many, and not all in a row lol

I would have any Ed Sheeran song on the do-not play list. I think most of his songs are generic and overplayed at weddings. And don't forget to add "A Thousand Years" to that list!

I love music--all different kinds. But there are certain bands that I don't care for, and do not want to hear at my wedding. Most of this is 80s stuff but we'll have a lot of other 80s music we like, so I felt I needed to alert my DJ to NOT play these bands/artists:

    Depeche Mode

    Tears for Fears

    Flock of Seagulls

    Taylor Swift

    Ed Sheeran

    Mariah Carey

Those are the ones at the top of my "do not play" list. I'm sure there are others. I've got about 9 months to figure out who else. lol

‘Earth, Wind, and Fire’ is definitely a band whose music FH and I want played at our wedding. I also love every line dance song haha (but we’ll probably only have two)
I personally don’t want many of the new hits played at our wedding—some are okay, but I don’t really care for Bruno Mars’ or Taylor Swift’s new music (for example).

We said no to the line dances, not because I don't like them, but because I'm sick to death of them and don't think our crowd would be into them anyways!

I mean it is to ones taste what I really liked me some one else might hate. For us we do not want any line dance songs. We don’t want any country.

My fiance is into a lot of house and dubstep type of music. I love the song Hey K by passion pit and want it played.

Do NOT plays on our list are:
bruno Mars (Fh hates his music 🤷🏻‍♀️)
    Sweet Caroline (bad memories)
    And Single Ladies

    MUST play lists:
cha cha slide (it’s overplayed yes, but it gets people up)
This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)
