Music at outdoor ceremony?

Emily, on August 18, 2019 at 4:18 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6
Hi!
We are having a small ceremony, 20 people including wedding party, at a park near by us. Do we need music? the whole ceremony will be like 15 mins. I’m torn if we should bother with music! We are having a large reception later for 130 people that will have cocktail hour with music and a DJ.

We got married on the beach and had 54 people. We used two speakers and played music from our phone that we downloaded. You don’t have to have it but it’s nice. And that was a cheap way for us to do it.

Our DJ is able to do our ceremony for a small additional charge, so we can have music, speakers and mics for people to actually be able to hear us. They also sell those karaoke speakers that are pretty cheap and often come with a mic, you just hook a phone up to it, that was the option I WAS looking into!

I'd try to have music. Even if it's a quick ceremony, it's nice to have background music as people are arriving and leaving, and if your going to have 130 people at the ceremony, it might be nice to mic the speakers so everyone can hear what's happening

At my son's outdoor wedding, they had his cousin playing a guitar for the processional and recessional.

If it's a short ceremony, hooking up your phone to some speakers like Cyndy suggested is a good plan. It would definitely save you money. If you don't want to hire professionals, you could also look into hiring college students or professors if you have a music school near you. They are still excellent musicians, but a fraction of the cost. Hiring a DJ may not work as well for the outdoor component because there's often an hour of set-up and tear-down with all their equipment.

We bought a speaker with microphone. It has Bluetooth or can connect with a cord. I have our ceremony music on my phone and will have a good friend play the songs for us. It was important to us to have the music both for the ceremony and while our guests arrive.
