Moving in 5 mins away from inlaws?

Nervously shopping for a home, and the only one anyone seems to be content with is just a 5-8 minute *walk* from my in laws? Just a little bit nervous about being that close to family, when we're newly engaged and soon-to-be-Married.. Any thoughts or advice to ease a nervous brides concerns?

I'd love this personally, think about it, baby sitter around the corner if you plan on having kids hahaha

Hopefully you have a good relationship with them. Plus you can always voice that you'd like a call before the stop by.

Oh man... I'll be honest, I've been OH so lucky to have an amazing relationship with my in-laws and they've treated me like a daughter since The day I met them but I couldn't live that close to them or my parents... I would go insane and FH even more lol we love our parents with a passion but we also enjoy our independence and seeing them only a few times a month, those boundaries are hard to keep when you live so close :/

We are about a 15 min walk from the in laws. We have a good relationship with them. They normally always lets us know if they are going to stop over. We also go over there a lot so they can spend time with our son. I honestly wish I lived closer to my parents so we could see them more too.

I wouldn't mind my in laws, but they're not close to my FH at all and certainly no problem for me.

We just moved four doors down from my future in laws and it is amazing! Of course I have an excellent relationship with them and they respect our privacy.

Total bonus: I often come home from work to find homemade leftovers in my fridge from my future mother in law...

It's a little different, but my ex refused to move anywhere near my brother because he didn't want to be "stuck babysitting." So we moved about 40 minutes away from our college and 45 minutes away from my brother. When we broke up, I moved a few miles down the road from my brother, where I now live with my FH. I've only been asked to babysit a few times and it's fantastic to have family around for impromptu bonfires, locking my keys in the car, locking myself out of the house, when either household accidentally makes too much dinner, and so many more reasons. I know it's not the same because he's my brother and these are your in-laws, but it's really great to have a support system and if he gets along with his parents, it will be great to have them so close by, especially if you decide to have kids.

My FH house is about 15-20 minutes from his parents. I love my in laws!!! They don't bother us at all. They aren't ones to barge in on us or come over uninvited

We're a 5 minute drive from his parents, 10 minute drive from my parents and soon his brother too. The only one i have issues with is his brothers wife, but she won't come over unless invited. So boundaries are a must. But i love living close to our parents!

We live two doors down from my parents and it's been both a blessing and a curse. For us the positives outweigh the negatives. I admit though, I don't think I could live that close to FH parents!

I live 5 minutes from my FILs in the same community. I can count on one hand the number of times they've been over. Never unannounced or uninvited. We go over to their house every Sunday for dinner (unless any other trips or plans come up for either of us). It really is great. But you should know in your gut if you're comfortable with it. I knew without a doubt our situation would be great. But my parents live over 2 hours away and I sometimes wonder if that's still too close. You already know. Just listen to your gut.

I think it depends on your in laws. I would love to live that close to anyone in any of our families, but we are both family oriented and our families are all super sweet.

I only live 3 miles from my FILS, I don't think it will be a problem, we have a great relationship and they're very respect our space, they've only been to my house a few times, never uninvited.

I'm about 3 streets away in the same neighborhood/5-8 minute walk as well. Its my own parents. neither stop by unannounced, even with the door unlocked they knock first. Or call. Only my dad ever comes over, he's a home remodeler so I call him for everything. I have a great relationship with them and so does my FH so he doesn't care at all. Bonus, mom gets us stuff for the house when she goes shopping occasionally. I haven't bought trash bags, dry sheets, feminine products, or dish soap since we moved in 1.5 years ago! haha

But I'm not sure about your situation. Id set boundaries if needed. Like, no unannounced vista without a phone call to ask/set a date/time, always knock even if the door is unlocked. and anything you might come across as the time goes.

We moved 15 minutes away from my FIL's last year and we love it. They never stop by unannounced (the only time they ever stop by is if they're helping his with something). They love on a lake so we go over there at least once a week for swimming, fishing, ice skating, etc and because they have a huge yard that our dogs love to play in. It works out great for us because they can take our dogs if we need and we take theirs if they need. So far no problems! We go out to eat with them probably every other week and they always invite us if they're having people over.

We live about 5 minutes away from both sets of parents but we live in a small town & we'd be that close to them regardless of what house we chose.

If it's an issue then keep looking.
