Mother of the Bride in pants?

Jessica, on April 27, 2015 at 9:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

My mom is really wanting to wear pants instead of a dress, if possible. However, I'm having a really hard time finding a pantsuit or outfit dressy enough, in the correct color, and don't cost a huge amount. Does anyone have any suggestions? The few websites I have run across don't seem to be the most reputable places to shop. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Your mom should wear whatever she's comfortable in, and she doesn't have to match your colors. Any department store like Macy's, Nordstrom, etc., should have something suitable.

Let her shop for the pant suit or item she wants to wear. Guve her a color anf let her be an adult and dress herself. It's not your responsibility or place to select and shop for her outfit.

What do you mean the right color? The color SHE wants or you want?

A pant suit with a nice top seems dressy enough to me...I wouldn't buy anything online though. Why not go to a nice department store, they always have stuff on clearance/sale.

My Mom doesnt want to wear a dress nor a dressy pants suit. I told her she could wear anything she wants to, but to be aware that FHs will be in a dress and that there will be family photos taken by a professional photographer (who is fhs brother) but ultimately its my Moms decision. She will probably just wear a pair of black polyester dress pants and a short sleeved sweater. Its what she wears .....whatever. Im just happy she's coming!

Actually, she asked me to find something I think she will like and will look good on her. She is the primary caregiver for my grandmother and doesn't get much free time to shop for herself or really leave home very much at all. As far as colors go, she wants to stick with our wedding colors, if possible, so she doesn't stand out in photos.

Honestly I think dress pants and a nice top would be fine. Like i said though, I would look in person for something, not online.

I told my mom to buy a nice pair of palazzo pants and a nice shirt. I just want our guests to be comfortable.

Have you checked out department stores? Nordstrom or Macy's, or Ann Taylor, or Lane Bryant (plus sized)?

I haven't had a chance to look in-store yet, but the majority of the things I have found are dress suits instead of pants. I guess I need to look at separates now. She wants short sleeves/sleeveless in case it ends up being warm (the wedding will be outside), but with a jacket in case it gets cool. We found one online that she liked that was navy, but the site didn't seem legit, so we decided to look elsewhere.

Talbots has some nice crepe suit separates in a wide range of sizes. The ivory could be very pretty for your Mom with a silk blouse in one of your colors.

I don't really know where to find a nice pantsuit, though any major department store is probably your best bet, but I did wanna say I get wear your coming from on the MOB outfit. My mom is all "I want you to pick my MOB dress so I can be a part of your vision!" and I'm like "Ok great, do you have a style or a color or a cut you really like?" and she says "Nope! I completely trust you to make me look fabulous!" Geez mom no pressure or anything...

Quick, someone call Hillary Clinton, she'll know what to do! :p

I know New York and Company has a lot of nice slacks. I'd suggest just putting an outfit together with slacks and a nice blouse.

I would look at Dress Barn, they may have some nice options.

I agree with the other posters that you're probably best getting separates and putting it together. My mom was the same way - she had me pick out her dress - but now she keeps making comments about how much she hates it. Good luck!

Dress pants and a nice shirt will be more than fine. I wouldn't suggest having her in the same color as the girls. Perhaps a neutral color. It will look very nice in photos!

My mom wore a pantsuit to my first wedding years ago in a pink color and it was the most commented on outfit-it was simple and gorgeous. My bridesmaid's were in champagne.

If the $300s is an okay price range for you, my mom looked at some "jumpsuits" (one piece like a dress, but with pants) from Ursula and other mother-of-bride brands. That might be an option if she wants to look dressy but doesn't prefer an actual dress. I thought it was a super weird idea, but I came around to it... then my mom completely changed her tune and picked a lace and sequin dress. Go figure!

What about Banana Republic? Can be a bit pricy, but they have sales often. You should be able to find some nice pants and a dressy top there. Also second the Ann Taylor suggestion, as well as Loft.
