Most Popular Liquor

Beautiful August., on July 6, 2010 at 8:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

So, FS & I are buying our own alcohol versus having open bar. My question is, what's the most popular thing out there that I should worry about getting. I suppose trends go by city--Chicago. Also we are having somewhere around 275 guests half of which will be drinkers.

Suggestions please.

If you're only buying one kind of liquor, I'd go with something clear and common, like vodka. I like rum, but it's a bit sweeter and lots of people aren't fans of sweet drinks. Vodka can be used with a wide variety of mixers for a lot of different tastes.

I'm planning on having a pretty big variety just wanna know what to get.

I'm not a huge drinker so I don't have the slightest idea.

If your only getting one kind, then i agree with vodka. Otherwise, I would get the most popular...vodka, rum, spiced rum, whiskey and of course tequilla. I would go with well/bottom shelf brands to keep cost down. You can get a handle of each for about 20 bucks.

Vodka, a couple rums (clear and spiced), and whiskey such as Jack Daniels would be a safe start.

I agree with Danielle. Vodka, rum (light and dark), and whiskey--my sister is a big whiskey fan and she likes Maker's Mark, which isn't too expensive. I'm not a tequila fan myself, but if you have juice to mix it with (or margarita mix), I'm sure some people would enjoy it.

Don't forget gin and scotch. Maybe a brandy or flavored cordial for those old school drinkers.

Scotch is a kind of whiskey--you could do a bourbon and a scotch, but I don't know how big a bar you're trying to stock. :-) Can believe I forgot gin, though, considering that it's my favorite liquor!

This is what I ordered for mine, 120 people. You can save money by getting cheaper brands on some things:

    2 bottles 3 Olives Vodka

1 bottles 3 Olives Grape Vodka

1 bottle 3 Olives Cherry Vodka

1 bottle 3 Olives Vanilla Vodka

    2 bottles Crown Royal

    1 bottle Grand Marnier

    1 bottle 1800 Silver Tequila

    1 bottles Jack Daniels

1 bottle Dewars White Label Scotch

1 bottles Captain Morgan Spiced rum

    1 bottle Bacardi Silver Rum

    2 bottle Tanqueray #10 Gin

    2 bottle Dekuyper Triple Sec

    1 bottle Dekuyper Peach Schnapps

    1 bottle Gallo Sweet Vermouth

    1 bottle Grenadine

We are also having beer and wine.

Brooklynne, thank you so much for that list. It is very helpful. Also, thanks to the rest of you ladies. I started to read some off to FS and he's like "I can't believe we didn't think of that!" I told him "That's why the WW sisters are AMAZING!"

I am looking for the one I used for my sister's wedding, but it was a lot like the first link, the wiki page. It's best to have a good mix. There are certain things that you can go well brand easier than others. Vodka and Rum I suggest better brands, like Bacardi and Three Olives, because they are pretty popular.

Chocolate Three Olives Vodka & Coke = Tootsie Roll (and it tastes just like one).

Amaretto, Scotch. There may be some guys who like to drink either by themselves or as a cocktail. FH likes a drink called the Godfather:

    1 1/2 oz Scotch

    1/2 oz Amaretto

Then there's the Old Fashioned (which is really good & a 'manly' drink)

    2 oz blended whiskey

    1 sugar cube

    1 dash bitters

    1 slice lemon

    1 cherry

    1 slice orange

My personal fav but also a 'manly' drink: Jack & coke

Sometimes I'll use Mount Gay Rum (Barbados) if I don't have Jack. If I don't have Mount Gay then I use Don Q or Barcardi (both Puerto Rican rum).

I took bartending school, the safe and common and also goes for alot of fruity drink will be vodka, its clear and if cost is a factor than order wells not premiem like grey goose and skyy, if there is a special color or flavor you want then vodka would be easy because its already clear and flavorless, grenadine or cherry brandy, or another color like blue or green sorry cant think of all right now but if u need help what drink that will provide the color you want just let me know

I am only doing a couple. Vodka and Captian Morgan. And of course beer. All my friends will drink Rum and Coke or beer, so I may cut out the Vodka just because I will have to also provide all the juices...

I'm buying my own liquor too. I went with vodka, spiced rum, clear rum, whiksey, scotch, gin and tequila.

Brooklynne, can you post after your wedding about whether the quantity worked out? I'm planning for roughly the same number of people. :-)
