Most overplayed wedding songs?

stacedeezy, on August 13, 2015 at 2:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 48

Currently, I'm going through music for my wedding. The big thing I want to avoid is picking something that has been done to death. When I showed one of my friends a song I was considering walking down the aisle to, she said "Oh, I've heard that at the last three weddings I went to." ... i had absolutely no idea.

So as far as processional, first dance, father/daughter, etc. ... what are the most overplayed songs, in your opinion?

First dance: At Last (original by Etta James or any of the covers).

That Heartland song for the father/daughter dance...EYEROLL...I hate that song (and not a fan of country music in general either) and my poor dad has his heart set on it for our dance. He just thought it was like the greatest "discovery" of his to use that song for our dance. I didn't have the heart to tell him otherwise but I'm NOT looking forward to it. It's just so cheesy to me, but it'll make him happy!

At last, 1000 years, I think I want to marry you, Marry me, and that ukelele thing.

But that being said, I think you pick what resonates with you. Most of your guests have not heard those songs as much as you have!

Ugh, Celia are you referring to the ukelele version of "Somewhere over the rainbow"? Hate that song.

OK. So far I'm doing good then, as far as first dance, father/daughter, and mother/son. But for the ceremony, I am playing the Piano Guys version of 1000 years (I think, I might change my mind), BUT I am not walking down the aisle to it, I thought I would just play it during the prelude, which will be a little less cliche.

How did you decide what to choose for your processional? I have a few ideas, but it's hard to choose between them.

I just wanted to chime in and say I don't think it really matters if something is "overplayed." I was thinking of having the ceremony guitarist play "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz and I really don't care if people have heard it at other weddings. *I've* never had a wedding before, so it's new for us. Lol

@Stacedeezy The prelude (somewhere over the rainbow) is a nod towards my best friend/MOH. I got the idea for what I'd walk to from Celia actually (Jurassic Park theme song) FH and MaKyla picked the recessional (Everything is Awesome)

ETA: they'll all be played on the Cello

I think Butterfly Kisses is overdone for the Father/daughter. If I dance with MaKyla for the parent dance I'm thinking either "Daughter" by Loundon Wainwright or "You'll be in my Heart" by Phil Collins

@JaKLyn haha, that's a cute recessional. For mine I'm going to do the vitamin string quartet version of Lucky by Jason Mraz.

I actually figure if I do instrumental versions...it'll be a little more acceptable to go with something overplayed.
