Monogram - Which name should come first?

Oregon Bride, on April 12, 2011 at 3:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

We are having our Save the Date and Invitations done by a close friend, and will incorporate an art deco monogram. Still working out details. The monogram will also be used with our cake and aisle runner. So, here's my question...I know for most printed items, the bride's name come first; however, I wonder if for the monogram what your thoughts are re: having the groom's initial come first. I ask because his first name starts with T and mine with L - I was thinking that TL could stand both for our names, and True Love. Also, if we were able to incorporate the last name initial, which is N - could stand for Truly 'N Love. I know, sappy, but I am a hopeless hopeless romantic. Just wondering what your thoughts are specifically re: the monogram, and whether you think if we switch it up on the monogram, we should switch it up elsewhere as well. Ok, done rambling now. Thanks for your input Smiley smile

The way I understood it when I made our monogram is that the woman's name comes first until after the wedding then the man's name goes first. Hope that made sense Smiley atonished But I people aren't really up to date on wedding etiquette so I say do whatever you want Smiley smile

From what I understand, Mrs.Jayjohn is spot on. However, that could have changed with the times.

They woman's name goes first because the man's first initial stays with his last initial. After the wedding you have the same last initial, so they can switch.

thats what I have read anyways.

Yes, but your new monogram cannot properly be used until after the ceremony. It is a faux pas to use his initial before it it officially yours.
