Hello I talked FH into updating the center stone in my engagement ring. My ring is an heirloom and I love it but I want to make it more my style. It currently has a princess 0.5 ct diamond in it. We have been looking at Moissanite gemstones instead of have a typical diamond. They are beautiful and much cheaper (I can get a 1.5 ct stone) does anyone have a Moissanite or diamond alternative? How much where they? How are they holding up? Does it look like a diamond? Please post pictures Smiley smile I attached a picture of my current ring

No one belittled you. They questioned your decision about a topic you brought up. People were HONEST. Did you want people to lie?

Oh and repeatedly flagging posts that aren't a vio is, in fact, a vio.

@fiddlinBritt fun fact about me since you don't know me and you are just judging me on my post, this ring came from my mother. FH and my mother thought it would be a great idea to pass it down to me and I in turn pass it down to my daughter. My mother was not able to get her stone upgraded before giving it to me and adviced me to go ahead and do so. The current diamond in my ring will be made into a pendant and given back to my mother. Noone was judging you, you were asked why you were changing a family heirloom, was a legitimate question.

You could have answered without the attitude, IMO

@rejie, you're right, we DON'T know you beyond what you post here, which is always a good thing to keep in mind when people respond with things you may not like.

I think that if your mother is on board with you changing the stone up on her old ring go for it! And making it into a pendant for her is a lovely idea. Eta: I personally do not want to change my engagement ring from my FH until it breaks

@FiddlinBritt - I can agree with you on that. If it is simply for wanting a larger looking stone or ring, then it wouldn't be something I would do and it isn't something I understand. However, some people change them for a number of reasons.

For some people it is because of the ethical standpoint, for some (like my aunt) she had to change her ring because she was having an allergic reaction to the band (I can't remember what it was first) and since her original ring didn't come in any other options for the material, she had to opt for a ring that did.

I am not saying that these are or are not the reasons OP wants to change it, but just a couple reasons why someone may.

OP were you planning on passing it off as a diamond? PP have some gorgeous rings and the right attitude about repping your own stone. An engagement ring doesn't need a diamond, but lying is ridiculous.

@FiddlinBritt I was thinking about saying something about how the love behind the ring is what matters, not the size of the stone, but I just didn't have it in me. I applaud you. Your FH thought the ring that he gave you was special, and now you want to change it? I feel bad for your FH that he went thru the effort to give you something that he thought was special and you are pretty much just telling him that it isn't good enough.

@ADP please read prior post of me stating my intentions for my ring. FH is here to support me and my decisions. Ultimately if my mother didn't like the idea I wouldn't do it however she is the one that brought it up.

When my FH and I were discussing rings I was quite adamant about expressing my preference for moissanite over diamond, in part due to ethical reasons. It is not a fake diamond, and I never pretend it is a diamond. My center stone is actually Sapphire, but I love the moissanite side stones. Eta: I didnt instruct my FH what to get me. He openly asked for my input. But if it was a family heirloom that had meaning, I would be happy to accept it aa is.

I understand what your intentions are. And if that's what you want, you do you. I know my FH would be devastated if I wanted to "upgrade" my ring after he gave it to me. Although, I would have been happy if my FH put a bread tie twisty on my left finger because what matters to me is that he loves me and wants to spend his life with me, and that I want to do the same with him.

@Rejie W. she has had her ring for almost a year now! I know they paid around 2k for it, so I think she's disappointed that she could have had something "more sparkly" for about the same cost, just a little smaller. She even has it cleaned often, but it only looks good for a few days and back to cloudy. She also doesn't wear it too often since she works from home, so it's not at risk of getting dirty.

My jeweler showed me a few moissanites next to diamonds, and while I LOVED the sparkle of them I found the ones I saw to be too yellow for my taste. Then I changed direction entirely and opted for a ruby!

Meanwhile, she just asked you all's opinion on what you thought of the ring. not that she was trying to pass it off as anything else....and to see how other's were holding up, you know if it lasts like a diamond does...

So what she wants it bigger? If we all could've chosen our rings, I'm pretty sure that we'd love a Liz Taylor rock vs a quarter machine pebble. #juststop being so quick to negatively judge someone with your responses instead of simply answering the question...

Although I know no one will care I just figured I'd add my 2cent as you all do

WHITE SAPHIRE!! They are so beautiful, totally look like a diamond. I have a necklace/earring set I had made with the white saphires and I feel like I'm wearing crown jewels. LOL.
