Midwest August wedding - heat concerns

Brandi, on May 6, 2014 at 9:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I'm planning to get married in August in St. Louis, but lately I've been concerned about whether it will be too hot. I have looked at historical weather and the last couple years it has been 90-95 around the time I was planning. The wedding and reception are both indoors, but do you think it will be too warm for taking pictures outside?

Does anyone have any experience with summer weddings in the Midwest?

I'm also from St. Louis and I've been to outdoor weddings in the heat of summer. If your wedding and reception are indoors, I think you'll be fine to take pictures outside as long as you have plenty of beverages. Maybe make sure you and your bridesmaids (and FH and groomsmen) are wearing light, breathable fabrics?

Wait until just before sunset to take outdoor photos -- it should be a bit cooler then.

I officiate outdoor weddings in Florida year-round. Since I am on the west coast, it makes sense to do ceremonies shortly before sunset when the lighting is gorgeous, it is a little cooler, and there is less chance of rain.

I'm about 5 hours away from you and considering its 84 here today, I would say August will be really hot!

As long as you don't stay outside for a long long time you should be able to get some pics outside that look very nice.

What time of day is your ceremony/reception? I'm in Kansas City and getting married August 2nd. Mine is all indoors since I know how it can be in Missouri in August. My ceremony starts at 10 am though, and my FH and I are taking pictures starting at 8:30 am. Since it will be so early, I think we have a good chance of being able to take some pics outside while it's still fairly cool.

    Good luck! :-)

I think you'll be fine for half an hour or so. Just bring plenty of bottled water and fans, and choose breathable BP party outfits.

We took our pictures outside with temps in the teens. It was worth it.

You do what you have to do.

It should be fine if you're only taking the photos for an hour or two. I'm getting married in the typically hot season, too, in Minnesota and planned it all indoors.

My sister got married in WI three years ago in a barn that only had two small windows. It was a Friday wedding at 7 pm and the temp was still 90 degrees in the barn. It was a very low-cost wedding and they had only bought enough water to give each person one bottle during the meal. Many people ended up milling about outside due to all the heat retained in the barn.

So - lesson is - make sure hot summer weddings are indoors with a/c!
