Menu for a lunch time reception

1Sooner.fan, on January 22, 2016 at 8:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

FH and I are still researching catering options for our lunch time reception and I wanted some opinions.

One company does nacho and taco bars, as well as baked potato bar. (the attached picture shows what is included in each).

If you went to a lunch time wedding, would you like either of these options for your meal? Which would you prefer?

Would one of these suffice as a full meal, or should we add something to it, like a fruit or veggie tray?

If we did this we may also include a candy bar, which includes snack mix, m&ms, and skittles.

We will also include other drinks aside from the ones listed that come with the meal options.

This company has done catering with our school for events and the food is good and high quality, so we don't have to worry about that.

Would you do potatoes, nachos and tacos? The only problem I see is that it seems really carb heavy. There would be no dancing for me, I'd be carb crashing hard, ha. It just seems heavy. I'd want some lighter wide options like salad and fruit. It's also all super messy! Ain't nobody look hot eating a baked potato, haha.

I would do either the potatos or the tacos and nachos.

That is a good point. Would adding a fruit tray help?

Most of our guests aren't big dancers anyway though, so I don't see that as being a big problem Smiley tongue

I would be all about the taco bar but you should try to offer a protein other than just beef. Adding chicken and/or fajita style veggies would be a good idea since many people don't eat red meat.

I suggested to FH that we have a tacos and margaritas, daytime wedding outdoors. He really wanted an evening wedding though.

The tacos and fruit sound great for a spring wedding to me.

Most lunch weddings I've been to have just had deli sandwiches. I think that as long as you have AWESOME bread, that works fine! :-)

Ooh yeah definitely not just a potato! That's just a plate of starch :/ You need some protein in there and a bit of verity. I would choose tacos over a baked potato. And adding chicken would be really nice too. You don't want you guests to not be able to eat because there are no options for them.

Definitely need more protein. I would also be hesitant to eat something so messy in my nice clothes.

Provided the refried beans are vegetarian the taco bar sounds awesome! Otherwise it's not a veggie friendly option.

Both seem a little odd as far as a lunchtime reception go to be honest. I think you mentioned a fruit and veggie tray ,and i would just go with that. Add a little starch as a pumpernickel bread and dip and be done..But that is just my opinion.

Nachos and tacos sound fab! I went to a wedding that had a baked potato station and it was awesome, but I wouldn't serve ONLY baked potatoes. I think you need something else there.

For lunch you could do nicer grilled sandwiches and a salad too. maybe mimosas if in the budget Smiley winking

Tacos with a few sides would be good. Like adding fruit and I love the churros idea. I mean who can pass up churros!?

Oh man all these ideas sound wonderful! You're making me hungry, haha.

I will definitely run these ideas by FH and see what he thinks.

I know we still have a lot of time though. I just like having ideas to consider hah.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

FH and I both wanted a taco bar, but it just didn't go with the "theme" of our wedding! I say go for that! Who doesn't love tacos?

Out of those options, taco bar is the best in my mind.

It sounds like nachos are part of the taco bar, so people could do just chips and salsa as a side or turn it into a nacho bar.

I agree with pps to add chicken as a second protein. Also see about maybe adding guacamole.

I would go for the Tacos and Nacho Bar and see if you can add an additional protein like the pps mentioned!
