Meeting The Future In-Laws: How Long Did You Date Before First Meeting Your Partner's Family?

Did your significant other introduce you to their family on date #1? Or did it take a few weeks? A few months? Or maybe you knew their family before you met your partner? When did you first meet your future in-laws? How does your relationship with them now compare to when you first met them?

Oh wow, nice! Was it planned ahead of time that you would meet them that soon? Or did things just happen to work out that way? Did you introduce him to your family around the same time?

Very cool! Did your partner meet your family around the same time that you met their family?

Oh my gosh, that's a crazy story about the phone call with his dad!! Great that his dad was a good sport about it, and that you can laugh about it now, lol. Super memorable way to meet his parents!

A month seems like a good timeline! Sorry to hear that the relationship with his mom hasn't been consistent, but awesome that you have a good relationship with his dad!

It felt like a spur-of-the-moment thing but I think it was always the plan for me to meet them soon, as a sign of how much he liked me. He met mine maybe three months later for my birthday, but they live a few hours away so they’re a little less accessible to get to.

Very cool! Three months seems like a pretty reasonable amount of time. Did your mother-in-law go with you on that first trip? Or just you and your partner?

Our parents have not met yet and we are getting married 9/10/22. But his mom is coming dress shopping with us. She is very shy and humble person so I am okay letting her decide when to meet my family. She’s a true treasure and I love her so much. I know my mom will love her too but I want her to feel comfortable with it all.

He had actually met my 2 children fairly early on. He did not meet my mother for a while as she was super active in my life.

My FH’s parents both past away before I could meet them but he introduced me to his children two months after we were dating, which I thought was pretty quick. I’m glad things worked out 😊

I'm sorry that you never got to meet his parents. Also, it sounds like he was confident in your relationship early on, since he introduced you to his kids fairly quick! That is usually a good sign, lol. Glad everything worked out so well for you!

We met about a month into our relationship. We both are very family oriented and once we knew we were serious about each other we wanted to introduce each other to them.

Very long story short, I’ve known his family for over 20 years and was already considered family by his sisters. The oldest sister is one of my besties and will be my MOH. They were all happy for us when we ended up together.

That is awesome that you're so close to his family! Is he as close to your family as you are to his family?

I don’t have a lot of family. Brother is on the west coast, parents are gone, no other family. He’s spoken to my brother on the phone and they do like each other!
