May 2020 Wedding and covid 19

on March 22, 2020 at 4:52 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 11
I'm getting married May 16, 2020. Fortunately, I made the cutoff date for the CDC's recommendation of having less than 50 people in one area. However, I'm still stressing out over the possibility of having the wedding canceled since guidelines are changing every day. How many May brides out there postponed their wedding? Or are your weathering the storm and see how it goes day by day? Any advice from your vendors?

Hi! I’m supposed to be getting married May 15. My ceremony/reception vendor is taking it day by day and is ready to jump ahead when allowed to do so. Right now with NY closing restaurants and bars to customers that puts an extra strain too. So Far a lot of things feel very “14 days” so we are waiting until April to make any further decisions. None of my vendors had much to say about it but I just reiterated with them what would happen should I have to postpone as far as payments go seeing I have a lot of final payments due next month. Crossing my fingers really tight and hoping this blows over.

Hi! I am May 17th and also waiting it out. I am praying for the best, as this date is very important to us, but trying to coordinate a back up plan to be safe. We should have a better idea in the next couple of weeks, and I am remaining hopeful for us all. In the event we aren't able to have it on the 17th, we would probably still get married with a small celebration consisting of immediate family and postpone the reception for the Fall. Our vendors are willing to move the date and payments, which is good so we don't lose all that money for a cancelation. Hope this helps! Remember, we are all in this together and supporting one another helps SO much! XO

My daughter's wedding is May 16th. Right now we have organized a back-up date and contacted all the vendors to confirm they are available for that date (so far all are!). However, we aren't pulling the trigger on moving it quite yet. We're holding until April 11th before making a firm decision. Just having the back-up plan in place has decreased her stress so much!

I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

I'm in ct and I didnt make the cutoff. They're saying itll be after may 10 and ours is may 9th. And I dont trust that theyll keep to that cut off since theyve been changing their mind everyday. However we still plan to get married may 9th and have a vow renewal and reception on august 30th. I'm just looking at it positively as I'll get to have 2 weddings.

I'm sorry you're stuck making a tough choice in a difficult time, May is really tough right now. I want to help put you in touch with even more members who are dealing with the same thing, maybe you can lean on each other and share info.

May brides and your plan of action?

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you! Stay positive Smiley heart

Our wedding is May 16th and I still have hope! We will be contacting our vendors to see how they are feeling about continuing to come on the 16th, We will be making out final choice whether to postpone or "keep" our date. Things change every few days so idk! Its a hard time to be planning this. We still have time!!! stay positive girly!

Quick update...I just received an email from the hotel for the wedding. They have decided to suspend operations for an indefinite time and have canceled all my room blocks. I'm starting to panic and wonder if I should seriously postpone the wedding. On top of that, my DJ said if I decide to postpone the wedding to a later date, I'd have to pay their increased prices for the year. This is becoming a nightmare.

I am so sorry to hear that about your DJ! Luckily all of mind have been super forgiving and flexible. They just plan on transferring everything to a new date. Made the heart wrenching decision to postpone but our venue didn’t have anything until November! Not shocked though between prime wedding season and all of the postponed weddings

Yes, I ended up postponing the wedding to September. It was heartbreaking but the best decision I had to make for my family and friends. Luckily, all my vendors were available and they surprisingly made it an easy transition to schedule it to the new date. I work in healthcare and have personally seen how deadly COVID-19 is. My advice for May brides is to postpone the wedding, practice safe distancing, and focus on getting through this outbreak safely. Here's a link of a youtube blogger who also had to postpone her wedding date the same date as me. It honestly helped put things into perspective.
