Marriage License too late?

Alyshia, on May 21, 2012 at 8:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Okay so I am starting to freak out and worry a little bit because I am getting married in Florida and live in KY but because of a flight change I will not be able to get my marriage license until the day of the wedding. Should I be worried?

Depends on the rules of where you are getting married. The county where we got married in in Maryland has where the license is not valid until 3 days after it is issued. I would call up and find out what rules they have about that and what you can do. When is your wedding?

Florida, unlike many states, has no waiting period for a marriage license if both of you are out-of-state residents. (There is a waiting period if you are Florida residents, unless you both take a marriage preparation course.) However, you might want to check with the office to find out how long it normally takes to get a marriage license, once you arrive at the office.

But 2d Bride, she isn't getting married in Kentucky. She is getting married in Florida.

Yes, I'd be concerned. Its a 3 day waiting period if you do not complete the counseling. (I'm in FL)

Is there no way you can get here beforehand?

Yeah we had to wait five days from the time we applied until we could pick it up, but that's in Canada. You should definitely find out what the requirements are. Maybe you could send your info ahead of you so it's ready when you get there!

What is the applicable waiting period?

There is a waiting period of three days after the license is issued before it becomes valid. *****The waiting period does not apply to out of state residents who are getting married in Florida.***** Also, if the couple completes an approved premarital counseling class before applying for the marriage license then they can also waive the three day waiting period. Information on applicable premarital courses should be available from your local County Clerk’s office.

How much do marriage licenses cost in Florida?

The license fee is generally $93.50. However, if the couple attends a registered premarital counseling class and can provide a certificate of completion, then the fee is reduced to $61.

    Hope this helps......

Both parties have to be present to apply for a license and you get it 3 days later. If you cannot get here, The only other option is to get it as soon as you get here then the JOP can marry you. Or do it ahead of time in KY.

Where in FL are you getting married?

And from what my sister was told, the waiting period applies to ALL licenses but you need to call the county courthouse where you are getting married.

We are getting married in Immokalee. We are both out of state residents and are doing the premarital course anyway so I do not think there is a waiting period. I wonder how long it will take to get the license and if we get it that same day?

I am getting married in FL and live in NC. There is no waiting period to get the marriage license because you are not a resident of FL. If you were a resident of FL it will be a 3 day waiting period. No need to stress, you are fine. I too am going to FL the day before but will not make it to get the marriage license until the day of the wedding.
