Go to the courthouse and take your parents to dinner.

Is your venue 700$ or the overall budget?

What do you want that $700 to be spent on. I’m assuming you are wanting $700 to pay for space only; no rentals food or drink. If this is the case, a community center or public park would be within budget.

ETA: I just saw your budget is for everything. Court house, all paperwork, new simple wardrobe, and a fantastic dinner for you and FH.

$700 all together, meaning both rental sites or a total wedding budget of $700?

FH's dad rented the Firehouse Hall for our engagement party and it was $150 for a cleaning fee and normally $300 for the space rental (but this was free for us since he is an active volunteer firemen). It would be $450 total for a non-member! There are also other local VFW, Knights of Columbus, Beach Clubhouse halls that rent for around $500.

OP how many guests are you thinking?

If it's less than 20, it's going to work out.

If it's more than that? Cut it down to less than 20.

Can you come back and clarify if your entire wedding budget is $700?

You can go get married at a court house/JOP and take your family to dinner.

    Otherwise push the wedding back.

Or give us more information and tell us that isn't your whole budget- LOL.

    I think she means:

"I'm looking a place for my wedding (ceremony) and reception all together. My budget is under $700." As in she wants to use the same venue and her venue budget is under $700. I could be wrong.

I'm a little concerned by the "step up" comment about courthouse weddings. I strongly considered doing a small wedding at the courthouse and would be pretty embarrassed for it to be considered a "less than" wedding.

I’m just really hoping she doesn’t come back and tell us she was planning on a guest list of 100 or a similarly ridiculous number.

I think a courthouse wedding sounds wonderful! I believe the pizza and beer/wine rehearsal dinner that we're hosting for 30 (no venue fee) will unfortunately be more than $700. The only way to stay in budget will be VERY small list.

@Katie, I am not sure where you live, but hotel conference rooms in my city are nowhere near $700. More like $3,000 with food and beverage minimums.

We rented an American Legion Hall in a high cost area. Their advertised rate is, I think, over $1200 BUT if you use them for catering too, the rental gets knocked down to $400-650 depending on using 1 or 2 rooms. The catering was super affordable too! We could've used it for the ceremony too, but opted for an outdoor venue elsewhere.

That's still vague. Reception and ceremony are the whole wedding...so $700 is for the venue? What do you want included? How many guests are you planning to host?

Bahney- that was not a very tasteful comment. People who choose not to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding are certainly not less-than. And also, who are you to decide the state of other people's finances? The point of a wedding is to be married, however big or small.
