Long Engagement - Any 2021 Brides?

Natalie, on April 26, 2019 at 3:09 PM Posted in Planning 6 249

My fiance proposed on January 26th 2019. This is my second marriage and we are paying for everything ourselves, so we're planning a longer than traditional engagement to allow ourselves to budget and save up slowly as opposed to going broke planning the wedding. We also both work over 40 hours a week and don't have a ton of time to devote to the planning

Our wedding date is 1/2/21, anyone else have a long engagement planned?

I'm getting married in June but I had an 18 month engagement and it was totally worth it. It's a little shorter than yours but still long to most people. I remember when we first set the date thinking it was so far away and feeling like it would never get here and now I can't believe we are eight weeks out! It really goes by so fast and having a longer engagement let us plan slowly which limited stress and allowed us to really research things before booking them which was awesome. We also didn't have to worry about vendors being booked up because we were so early so we were able to get all of our tops choices.

I am. My fiance proposed to me October 2018 and we're getting married April 2021. We're eloping in Hawaii with immediate family (10 of us total) and turning it into our honeymoon trip. We'll be out there for a week so we want to make sure that we have enough money for food/housing and whatever adventures we come across!

Exactly! Also we get the advantage of locking in 2019 pricing because prices are bound to go up.

Hey! We are planning on September 18,2021. I am working on my bachelors degree and don't graduate till May of 2021, so we are waiting. I also work full time so it's a bit hectic. I was supposed to wait till I was done with school to start planning, but I want to get some of the major stuff live venues and etc. out of the way. Plus we are paying for our as well, parents offered to help a little as well.

I like that we get to treat the planning process like a marathon rather than a race Smiley smile

Yes it is a great feeling. I like chunking it. Doing certain things in chunks. Like this week is the last week of spring semester then I get two weeks off to plan and look at venues, then its back to the books for summer classes.

I'm getting married in September 2020, but my FH and I got engaged in March 2018 so we have a two and a half year engagement. Long engagements can be wonderful - you have a lot of time to save money and you'll be able to get your top pick of all of the venues/vendors. You can plan a little bit at a time and save yourself a lot of stress. I'd still book people early so you can lock in cheaper pricing. We've been able to secure 2019 pricing everywhere and will probably save thousands of dollars by booking early.

Yes that's so awesome!! We are putting the deposit down on our venue today, and plan to book the photographer & dj in the next 4 months or so. Smiley smile

Our date is June 1st of this year. We got engaged October of 2017. It's much easier when you give yourself time. We got all of the vendors we wanted because we started booking well in advance. It also gave us time to save, like you said. I've never felt rushed or behind with anything, and now that we're about a month out I'm so happy we did it this way.

Yes! I feel like we were just crusing along and then out of no where it was 3 months away. In a blink of an eye we're almost a month out!

We're getting married next July and by the time of the wedding, we'll have had a 24 month engagement. I've already got every major vendor (venue, caterer, officiant, dj, photographer, florist) booked and many locked me in for either last year's rates or this year's rates. Now it's just a matter of paying off the bills. My sister just got engaged this past Christmas, and she and her fiance are looking at April 2021, so they'll have a little over 2 years as well. I'm a big fan of long engagements in general, but the financial aspect of it definitely makes it even more appealing!

We got engaged on the 4th of July 2018. We were originally going to get married on our 5 year anniversary: December 6, 2021. That meant a 3.5 year engagement... but we were lucky enough to come to an agreement on changing a few plans and moved the date up by a year! So now a 2.5 year engagement lol. 19 months out at this point. We're paying for everything ourselves as well and we already have a lot going on financially so we need that time.

My fiance and I have been engaged since Christmas day of 2018. We are doing the same thing as you and paying for our wedding ourselves so we are having a long engagement. We are getting married on December 10, 2021 which is our dating anniversary. We've been together for 6 years, making our wedding day 9 years. Haha. People think it's silly because we have been together and living together for so long, but we honestly think it's best for us💁‍♀️ plus, I love that no one else is helping us pay for the wedding because we can do whatever we want and make it what we want it to be, and not what anyone else wants🙂

    Hi ladies

I've been with my man for 11 years, he came with an amazing daughter and our daughter is now 4. We are getting married in August 2021. I'm in education so the summer is the only time and it gives us time to plan things this year so next year will be about my step daughter who is graduating. We are spending this summer looking at venues and locking in the 2019 rate. We are just have our girls and my bbf in the wedding. My parents are deceased so it will also be an emotional process, the kicker is we haven't gotten "officially engaged yet" he has my moms ring and I've told people after 11 years, 2 kids, 2 dogs and engagement ring is just a formality his eldest child is happy we are "growing up" making it official.

I got engaged April 2019. We don't plan on getting married until 2 years due to me being pregnant with twins. And also having more time to plan and save. 😊
