Logistics - how many fit at a 60" round table?

Amanda, on July 2, 2013 at 10:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Since we've already received over 80 RSVPs, I've started playing around with a seating chart. I'm trying to avoid splitting up families/friend groups. This is causing some tables to have 7 people seated there, and a couple of tables with 9. Is this too many? Our venue recommends 8 per table, but just wondering how many will fit if need be.

I think 8 people would be the most comfortable

8-10 is what my coordinator said, but 8 would be most comfortable.

Thanks! That's what I thought :-) only a few tables will have 9, so it should work out well.

If you had little people at a 9-top, it can work (i.e. kids or just very small adults -- my sis is 5'0 and 100 pounds, so people like that size). But if you have normal-sized or large adults, if you can avoid going over 8, do. Sometimes it's more comfortable to have an extra table nearby than to smoosh nine large adults at a table that size. (I do a lot of events for work and have done the 9-person squeeze at a 60-inch round, but it always looks awkward and one person inevitably winds up kind of back from the table.)

We had mainly 8, but a few tables had 9 with no issue.

Our venue and caterer both said 8-10 for the 60 in tables. 6-8 for 48in tables.

Heck we even had to have a table of 11 due to a last minute addition and there was literally no way to mix up the tables due to social groups and whatnot. I hated the idea of doing 11 at the table but our caterer assured us that they had done it before and it was okay (one was a child at that table too). Yes it was tighter than the other tables, but it worked and was fine. The number one thing our caterer told us as far as seating is that people would rather be a little tight and be with people they know and will have fun with than have more room and be at a table where they don't know anyone.

    9 will be fine.
