Lobster Boil Reception (Invite help)

So we are having a Fourth of July wedding, we were thinking of doing a hamburgers/hot dogs reception, but after doing some checking on the budget, we realized we have more money to spend and we would like to put it towards food! We are going to have a Lobster Boil / Clam Bake reception..

My question is this, should the invitation be super informal so people know to dress casual, or is it okay to have a more formal invitation as long as the information is spread word of mouth and is on the wedding website? The save the dates were casual/informal/4th of july themed.

Maybe you could write "informal reception to follow" on the bottom of the invitation. PS I love your reception idea. The food sounds fabulous.

After the vows we promise to wow. Put on your clam diggers and bibs and belly up to the pot.
We would like you to be comfortable on the beach at our lobster boil reception.

Come as you are, stay as long as you can, bring your butter and eat with your hands.

How many guests do you think will show up with butter?? LOL

That's really cute MJ!

Before I read the other posts I was going to suggest making the invites as fancy as you want and just putting "casual attire" or "informal reception to follow".
Now i'm kinda leaning toward the lobster themed invites

I am thinking I could find a lobster invite that is SUPER cool, so that my love for all things paper is fulfilled but so is the theme.

Fiance wants to put all the invite information printed on to custom lobster bibs and then fold and mail.. kinda cute?

Maybe ink your invites or put them like we are having a (insert lobster stamp print) then a pic of a pot, then a stick of butter.

Or I guess I could have a ceremony invite and a reception invite even though they are in the same area, but have them reflect that my ceremony is gonna be pretty pretty but then the reception is grubby buttery... idk. I want people to know they can dress down, but i something really amazing in the mail.
