Let's talk makeup/hair: Average pricing

sunshine in the heart (aka Sarah), on September 13, 2012 at 2:29 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 40

Hey all, Smiley smile

I would love to do a quick survey of the price you ladies paid for make-up and hair (if done professionally).

Did you do a trial beforehand?

Were you happy with the results?

I'll be paying NADA for hair (mine is cut really short right now so I'll be doing it myself)

As for makeup, I will be paying the artist $125. For that price I'll get airbrush and eyelashes included. She'll be coming to me the day of and staying for touch ups for photos. I haven't done a trial yet, as I am in Germany and she is in NY but I may swing in once I fly into the States for a trial. If I don't get a trial, I'm not too worried about it. I'm not asking for anything crazy complicated and I've seen her work on people with similar complexions to mine, she's awesome and she knows what she's doing lol

I asked something like this not too long ago. For my hair including the trial it's $50 and for full face make-up including a trial is $35. Some girls were up in the 200's 300's. I thought to myself yupp, i'm getting a good deal LOL!!

When I looked at a professional that a friend had used, (and I was in her wedding, so I had my hair and makeup done by this lady before) she cost $150 for both hair and makeup, and she had a $500 minimum to come to us.

Luckily, one of my bridesmaids happened to know two freelancers, both of whom worked her wedding. So now our hair and makeup is coming to us, and it's going to cost $25 for makeup and $50 for hair per girl. SO much better!!

I had two makeup trials because I didn't like the first one -- not her fault, she did what I asked for, I just didn't like it. The second trial came out perfectly, and my hair trial was perfect as well, exactly what I asked for, and they did it so that I was ready at the time that I would be ready on the wedding day, and it lasted til my wedding would be over so I was very happy!

For my wedding, I used a traveling company that came to me. It cost about $120 total for my trial which I was happy with but knew things we were going to change for the wedding day. Then $105 for EACH hair and makeup on the day of. 15 dollars extra for lashes. I felt gorgeous when they were finished with me.

I was a bridesmaid this past weekend for my brother's wedding and had my hair and makeup done at a salon. It was $55 for makeup. Knowing the type of lashes I liked from my wedding, I bought them at Sally beauty for $4.50 and had the MUA put them on which she didn't charge for (when normally adding lashes would be another 15 dollars). My hair was $80. I loved my hair so much for my brother's wedding. It almost gives me hair regret and wish that I chopped off all my hair prior to our wedding and did the same style.

Both times the makeup was airbrush.

Make-up around here runs $20-30 at most salons. The one I am going to said starts at $30 so I guess it depends on who does it.

Hair is $60 for a wedding up do, $50 for a normal up-do.

My salon specializes in retro hair and make-up which is the look I'm going for. Now if work would just pick up so I can actually pay for it!

I am not doing a trial for my makeup (the MUA is far from me and I am really easy going with makeup, nothing really scares me so i didn't feel the trial was necessary). I am paying $125 for makeup, it is airbrush makeup and includes lashes and a lip gloss for touchups throughout the night. The girls will pay $65 each (it was completely optional for them but they all said they wanted makeup and didn't mind the price at all- if I could afford to pay for them all I would!)

As for hair, I have my trial next tuesday (not sure how much that will cost) but my hairdresser is my cousins girlfriend and will be doing my hair as a "gift". One of my bridesmaids (my "little" cousin) is also a hairdresser and the two of them will be doing all the hair and makeup (they insisted) Smiley smile

I am getting my hair done for $45. I am not sure if that is a normal price or not. This is the same hair dresser that did my hair at my dad's wedding when I was 12, so it could be a discounted price.

For my makeup I am paying $20 and that includes her coming to wherever I am. Her hair pricing is $30 but I am only having her do the bridesmaids hair so my hair will not be rushed. She did the hair and makeup for my friends wedding and it turned out really pretty but we were rushed because it was just her and there were about five of us that needed hair and makeup, so I didn't have time to get my makeup done.

For our wedding, I did my own.

For Cate's wedding, we used Casey from "Dylan Michaels Cosmetics" & Jill Kozur from "Up Your Do". Both work out of the salon in Jenkintown(Le Pappillion) We went there for trials. However, they came to us on the day of.

    Hair

We both paid $75 for trials. It was $25 to reserve the day & no, it wasn't applied to the day of prices. I wasn't too pleased about that.

On the day of, For 3 or less, it was $115 & a $50 travel fee. She charged extra to put Cate's extensions in.

    Make-Up

Cate received a free trial. However, it was $25 to book her & again it was not applied to the day of price.

Day of, for 2 or less we paid: $115 for airbrush. The bride received a free lipstick. $10 add'l for lashes. Travel fee - $50.

I wasn't thrilled w/ the prices. I thought we could have gotten better. However, it was what Cate wanted, so we went for it. We were both very pleased w/ the results. It was a very humid day & our hair and make-up didn't budge.

I had to search high and low to get this price (even haggle a little) but I'm paying $85 for hair and makeup and they're coming out to my hotel. The trial was $60 and I was VERY happy with my results. I even used her for my epics and I love how it looks in my pictures

For makeup only it's costing $200, includes brides make up, lashes, touch up make up bag, matron of honor basic makeup and angel dust for flower girl. Mine also included a trial which I had on August 24th and she comes to the church.

Mine is also coming to me.

I went for the best I could find! Hair is $75.00, MU is $70.00 and I'm having myself & my two MOH's (twin daughters) done.

Yes, I had a hair trial and loved it!!! The makeup I did NOT do but I could schedule one. I worked with MUA's before and I have a good idea what I want.

I got my hair and make-up done for my e-pics, but it was pretty heavy so probably comparable to wedding make-up and everything. I paid $150 for both plus a $50 fee for the girl to come to my hotel before 8 AM. She's in Orlando and AWESOME if anyone needs an MUA recommendation.

I live in the bay area, I was gonna book my H&M with this salon . She has very very good review and her wedding package for the bride is 1500. Is it overprice? I thought it was expensive but maybe similar to other make up artist but comparing to the price everyone else here get, it seems way overprice Smiley sad

Tramy T - did you mean $150 or $1,500? Because if it's the latter, the MUA better be dipping you in solid gold lol!
