Large bridal party hair/makeup timeline

Shannon, on July 17, 2018 at 7:12 PM Posted in Planning 1 13
I have 9 bridesmaids, myself, my mom, and my future mother in law who all need to get hair and makeup done. The makeup artist and the hair people are coming to the bridal suite so that helps, but how much time do you think each will take? Our ceremony is at 4pm and we will not be doing a first look. I think there will be 2 people doing hair and 2 people doing makeup.. I want the day to be fun and not stressful but don't want the girls to have to get there too early or sit around doing nothing any longer than they have to!!

You have a large bridal party & that all could take more than a few hrs. I would at least be prepared to start by 8am..have you asked the hmua vendors what they suggest?

It usually depends on how fast the artist works. I would start around 10am to give everyone time to get glammed and get lined up in time. If touchups are needed you also have that time frame as well.

My sister in law is a hair dresser and make up artist, and when we discussed this issue for my wedding she said she'd need about an hour per person. For our wedding we're using the onsite kitchen to make our own food, and we're also decorating the venue ourselves. So whoever isn't in the bridal suite getting hair and makeup done will be cooking/decorating. Then we'll all start getting dressed about an hour before the ceremony. There's only me, my MOH, two bridesmaids and my daughter's to get hair/makeup done. His mom and mine will be doing their own, and my mom will be helping get my daughter's ready. So that timeline should work out well for us.

They've each suggested about 20-30 minutes per person with 10 minutes in between, but I wanted to see if in anyone's experience it took much longer or shorter!

Joy, that sounds perfect! Maybe everyone could help do some set-up in our down time since we will be at the reception site.

You will need to ask your HMUA this question because only they will be able to tell you how long they need for each person. Each HMUA is different; some are faster than others. When my BMs got their makeup done, my HMUA scheduled about 40 minutes for each girl. But yours may need more or less time.

I had 5 BMs, my mom and myself getting ready. Only one MUA and 2 hairstylist (one for me and one for my girls) the MUA started at 7:30 and hairstylist started at 8. I wanted us to be done for 3 that way we can eat and rest until it was time to go to the venue for 4:30. They were done at exactly 3. You need at least an hour for everyone. They also asked what time did I want to be done so they set their own time on when to start. I would ask them

I was in a bridesmaid last year for a wedding and I was the last girl to get ready so I had to wait and wait for my turn. I did my own make up just to hurry and be ready on time. I would definitely talk to your party group and come up with a small schedule of make up and hair rotation.

The HMUA should be able to answer this. I gave mine a list of who is getting which services done and they will create a schedule for us based on the time we all need to be ready.

My HMUA needed from 8 am to 2 pm to do six people (me, my mom, and my wedding party of four), if that helps.

I was in a wedding party of 7 bridesmaids with one hairstylist and two MUAs. I think maybe MOB got herself done too. Bride asked us to be there at 8am for a 5:00pm ceremony. We had breakfast and lunch and they did all pictures besides family beforehand.

We are similar in our getting ready! I have 9 bridesmaids, 3 moms, and me getting ready. So 26 services. We are hiring 2 people for makeup & hair, and 1 assistant (the assistant will be curling hair while the other two are finishing hair and doing makeup). The main woman I'm booking said 10 AM - 4 PM should be enough time. So 6 hours. Our ceremony is at 5 PM. It'll be a long day for the girls but there is a lot of seating at the venue, and we are providing lunch for them & a mimosa bar. I'm also thinking of having a chair massage company come and give massages to the girls just hanging out! It's only like $200 for a couple hours with 2 people. And I'll bring a speaker for music too.
