So I've waited far too long on getting my wisdom teeth removed and now all four of them have poked through. One in particular is growing sideways and the other one is growing into my cheek. To say the pain is excruciating is an understatement. I go in Thursday for a consultation to figure out what we can do and when but when I asked her about a schedule of how soon I could get in to get these son's of bitches removed she said i'd be looking end of August to early September. My wedding is the end of September and i'm just curious for those who have had their teeth removed/pulled how long were you swollen for? I just don't want to get my teeth removed beginning of September and then have a swollen ass mouth for my wedding pictures. Priorities, amirite?

I am right there with you in terms of painful wisdom teeth. I had 2 of the 4 removed around 3 years ago by a general dentist. Since they were already exposed, seeing specifically an oral surgeon was not a necessity and therefore ended up saving me a bit of money (over $1k difference). This was before I had insurance and was pretty much the only option i had at the time, but I still plan on seeing a GD (with the appropriate additional training) to have the remaining 2 extracted. i had the same timing issue when I contacted the oral surgeon; no availability for almost 6 weeks just for the consult alone. The GD got me in in about 2. It may be worth consulting with a GD in your area (again, with the appropriate training in wisdom tooth extraction) to see if that is even an option for you. I found mine by searching "wisdom tooth extraction general dentist + zip code," found one, read reviews, the whole 9 before deciding to proceed with them. I just moved to a new area so i was in need if a new dentist anyways. Wisdom teeth are SO PAINFUL while they're in there, but under care of the right hands should be relatively quick/painless to remove & recover from.

    Good luck!

I had all of mine removed at the same time and was swollen for about a week but the pain medication they gave me made me sick and I had to rely on Advil. I was in pain for at least a week and getting out to take care of things was hard because of how much pain I was in. I would be very careful about how close to your wedding you get them out but if you wait too long it will cause your teeth to move and could then screw up you teeth permanently!

Swollen for maybe 1-2 days, though it was VERY minor. I could have gone back to work right after the procedure, honestly.

I had mine done when I was 20 and it was really painful. I was swollen for two or three weeks but keeping ice and heat on my face helped a lot. I suggest a rice pack or getting a clay pack, they made life so much better! You will honestly feel so much better after the operation!

I didn't swell at all. Not everyone does.

I did have severe pain for about four days, but we think I over irrigated a socket.

ETA: I just did local anesthesia. The procedure itself was pain free. I took Advil for the course of the pain. They gave me a stronger pain medication, but it wouldn't last me 8 hours, so they had me go back to Advil/Tylenol every 4 hours for the pain.

I could have went back to work right away.

Go to a different dentist if you have to, but be sure to do this in August at the latest.

I had to get my wisdom teeth removed before the bar exam (July 28-29) of that year (I think I was 25 or 26 at the time), so I scheduled the appointment on July 6. It was miserable. I was completely out of it on painkillers for 4-5 days. Then it got infected (which is wayyy easier to do than you might think _ I was really careful with my rinsing and spraying and all that stuff), so another 10 days of misery and my face looked weird for awhile and I couldn't open my jaw quite right

Oh, I do want to add that the procedure/recovery is very different when you have a tooth that's growing up out of your gums (but maybe at an angle) VS. when one is growing sideways into another tooth (and doesn't actually surface). For the later, essentially they cut your gum open over almost the entire length and extract it by force (sometimes by crushing the tooth first), where as for the former, it's more like traditionally pulling out a tooth. The sideways one leaves a much bigger hole and typically has a much bigger impact on your jaw too. I almost lost the adjacent tooth because the impacted tooth was growing into the root of the other one and threatening its stability

Mine were swollen for about a week, I didn't ice them as I should have or the swelling would have gone down sooner. I'm a bruiser too so it did heal pretty quickly but I had them done 10 years ago and they weren't as bad as what you're describing. I would see if I could get them done sooner if the pain is as bad as you're describing, maybe with an oral surgeon if you can swing it.

If you can't get it done at or before the beginning of August, I'd wait. You never know what complications there could be. My best friend and I both had ours out in high school - she was fine and eating hot wings the next day. I was bedridden, swollen, and couldn't eat for 2 weeks.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that they can get you in sooner! Maybe if you explain your wedding is around that same time? I would think they can make some sort of accommodation for you. I had mine out about 16 years ago - all 4 were impacted. I definitely had swelling for close to a week and bruising around my jaw (like you could literally see each of the doctor's finger prints where he was holding my jaw, but I bruise easily).

I actually didn't have any swelling, luckily. I'm a wimp, so I struggled with the pain more than I thought I would. I did dislodge the clots though, so that could have something to do with it.

I honestly would look for another Dr. I waited too long to have them removed and I'm having all sorts of problems.

I wouldn't also remove anything with in 2 months of my wedding.

I had all four removed at the same time. Not allot of swelling from my recollection nor did I have any complications. What I do remember however are the food restrictions due to the dissolvable stitches in my mouth.

I ate a hot dog 3 days later - just depends on how complicated it is, and whether or not you have any complications - tell them about your concerns for the wedding - they should be able to tell you whether you should wait until after the wedding or not (though fingers crossed they can get you in much sooner and it won't be an issue at all)

I iced my cheeks regularly and the bruising and swelling went away in four days.

However, i was miserable because of the pain. This, even though I didn't have any complications like infection or dry socket. I attended a family function a week after the surgery and I looked normal in pics, but I couldn't enjoy because of the pain.

Have you tried telling them about your wedding? They may be able to accommodate you earlier.

I had mine out in high school. I only had three, but they were all impacted. I was swollen for about a week.

If yours are actively causing you pain, I'd push back on having to wait and get in asap.

I think I was back to feeling 100% two weeks after my surgery, but I don't think I was swollen that whole time.

My top two grew out and the dentist just pulled them. I did not swell almost at all.

I had mine pulled at 18. I ended up getting dry socket in all four and that SUCKED! I was swollen for a few weeks. I would see if they can get you in sooner.
