Kleinfeld Appt When Kleinfeld is out of Budget

April, on March 5, 2019 at 8:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 65

I'm going up to NYC for a weekend trip for my parents to meet my fiancé's mom. This will be at the end of April. I want to go dress shopping with my mom that weekend. I watch Say Yes to the Dress and was wondering if it's worth it - for the experience - to go to Kleinfeld, even though my budget for my dress is under $1K, but they make it clear that dresses there start at $2K? Appointments need to be booked in advanced, so I booked a slot in case I decide to go for it anyway. What do you guys think, should I spend the time with my mom looking at dresses I can't afford or should we go somewhere else in the city where I might be able to afford the dresses I look at?

While the experience might be fun I wouldn't do it personally. I would be the type to fall in love with a dress then be heartbroken that its not in budget. I made my dress work because I paid for a third of it and my mom paid what she had budgeted for my dress.

Trying on a dress that you can’t afford is a recipe for dissapointment for you and a huge waste of the consultant’s time. It’s not something I would recommend.

I wouldn't do it only because if I found the dress of my dreams that was out of my budget I would be so upset.

You’d be setting yourself up for disappointment trying on dresses you can’t afford.

I agree with all the people above. Trying on dresses you know you can't afford is not good and a waste of time.

I thought you had to pay a significant amount of money just for an appointment there? If you ask me I wouldn’t do it. Even if you got their cheapest dress, alterations are gonna be even more money destroying your budget even more

I think it would be a great experience. However I also agree that you may find a dress fall in love and realize it's way out of your budget.

I think you should go to another store. The worst feeling is falling in love with a dress over budget. Try RK Bridal in NYC. I just got my dress from there and it was around 1,200 and I had a great experience. Only downside is that it is walk in, no appointments.

Don't do it. Not only could you fall in love with a dress there that would be over your budget, but if you did manage to make everything happen so you could buy it, you have to have your fittings and alterations done there too per their policy. Look close to you within your price range and it'll be just as wonderful. You're going to have such a great weekend with everyone meeting each other...why not do something like tea at the Park with both moms so you can talk wedding details?

Oh please don't. Nothing worse than falling in love with a dress you can't afford! And I honestly wonder if the experience will be anything like the show. I bet it's not and just like any other bridal store but with a higher price tag!

I just got my dress here, they have a lot of options under 2k. David's bridal is almost as high as them. I thought I would never buy in there but, they ended up being cheaper. Go for the experience!!! Even if you buy nothing:-)

I highly would advise against this idea. I guarantee you will fall in love with a dress out of your budget. Then you will have to increase your budget or leave empty handed and may have feelings that no dress lives up to that dress. I was always told not to try on anything over your budget. I did and ended up spending much more than I was comfortable with because I loved it

Kleinfield has a sample shop across their main store I believe that have lower prices. Check it out on their site.

Nope! I had an appt there and that’s not true. Kleinfeld’s does have a significant amount of drssses under $2,000. They have their budget dresses in a separate room you can sort through that isn’t as glamorous as the rest of the showroom. I actually had a good experience there and the consultant really helped me pin down the style I was looking for. I didn’t end up getting a drsss there but was glad I tried it! Just stick to your budget and make it clear to them you don’t want to go above that. I mentioned that and they respected it.

I would like to second RK Bridal, my sister went for her bridal gown there and they were great.

Kleinfeld's does have a sample studio across the street from the actual store, I've been and it's really cute and low key

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend that at all. It will be fun at first, but if you find a dress you love and cannot bring home with you, then you’ll have so much disappointment.

I’ve also been there! While you won’t see the super glamorous dresses on TV, they absolutely have dresses to try on in your price range. Just be honest about your budget with your sales person. Truly honest!! I personally didn’t buy my dress from there (it was my first time dress shopping and i really didn’t have a clue what my style was... so that ate up a lot of appt time). But I did figure out what I DID like style-wise. And the dress I really liked there was under $1,000. I do like the feel of a smaller boutique though bc it’s more relaxed and comfortable than Kleinfield. But I went for the experience more than anything!

I second this! That was my same experience there. She said plentyyy of brides come in with a lower budget. And I also pinned down my style by going there which made it easier looking at other places after that.

As someone who used to work commission in fashion I think its rude and a waste of the salesperson's time. Plus you'll prob find something you love and can't afford and then youll be disappointed in the dress you actually do buy.
    Hard pass.

Hmmm, I've tried on outfits and dresses outside my budget on other occasions before that fit like a dream and feel like a cloud but I've never been sad over not being able to buy it before. That aspect doesn't bother me at all. It's my first wedding dress shopping experience, I don't intend to fall in love with any dress at first sight. I fully intend to buy a dress in TX where I live. Dress shopping in NYC, regardless of which store, will just be for fun and research.
