Kleinfeld Appt When Kleinfeld is out of Budget

I'm going up to NYC for a weekend trip for my parents to meet my fiancé's mom. This will be at the end of April. I want to go dress shopping with my mom that weekend. I watch Say Yes to the Dress and was wondering if it's worth it - for the experience - to go to Kleinfeld, even though my budget for my dress is under $1K, but they make it clear that dresses there start at $2K? Appointments need to be booked in advanced, so I booked a slot in case I decide to go for it anyway. What do you guys think, should I spend the time with my mom looking at dresses I can't afford or should we go somewhere else in the city where I might be able to afford the dresses I look at?

I loved my experience at Kleinfelds! I had a pretty decent budget but I overheard another consultant helping a bride with a 1k budget. Don’t believe the show! They were so helpful and we ended up being there for two hours 😂. Got to meet Randy and Mr. Kleinfeld too even though I didn’t get my dress there.

I wanted to go there too but passed because I knew I couldn't afford it, I have expensive taste without the proper expenses lol so I knew I'd end up liking something there and didn't want to put myself in that predicament so I passed on it

I was in a similar situation ($2k budget) and went to Kleinfeld mainly for the experience. I found it to be very disappointing. My consultant was very pushy and talked me into trying on several dresses above my price range, which I knew I could not buy, so it was sort of a waste of time. However I’m sure it depends on the consultant since others mentioned they went with low budgets and had a good time, but you never know who you’re going to get.
I would also recommend RK Bridal in NYC. They have a massive selection and were very helpful when I went dress shopping there. Honestly that was a much more pleasant and low pressure experience than Kleinfeld.

I agree with what others have said. Trying a dress on your can't afford typically doesn't go well. Also, if you do a quick google.you’ll find plenty of articles about how an appointment at Klienfields is nothing like what you see one the show (which is a very controlled enviroment). I would just go wall by the store and maybe peak inside, but don't plan to try on dresses.

No way because you will fall in love with one probubly way over budget and then compare every dress to it and be sad! I wouldn't

I bought my dress at Kleinfeld’s. I guess I don’t see how the Kleinfeld’s experience is any different than almost any other bridal boutique. I think the alterations process at Kleinfeld’s might be a little more elevated than other places though.

I say don’t do it. What if you fall in love with a 2k dress? Or even 3k? Would you consider buying it? If so then yes but if you’re strict on your budget you’ll suffer a big disappointment.
New York has other amazing places for dress shopping and even some places with second hand dress. Maybe try this instead.

I think a wedding dress is different. I fell in love with the 4th dress I tried on. You have someone helping you fit it to your style and body type.

I think there are nicer things to do in New York than this when the place clearly will be out of your budget. You can always try on a dress out of budget in your area, but you are paying hotel costs and travel costs to be there and you are much, much better off going to a show, going to a museum, going to a great restaurant then going and trying on something that you know isn’t going to happen.

If if you want a major label gown don’t go to Kleinfelds go to Glamour Closet instead. They sell close outs and samples at a discounted price and the proceeds go to Parkinson’s reasearch. Plus the people there don’t work on commission so they are just as polite when you are just looking as when you are in there trying on gowns. You will have to find a good seamstress yourself and locate an excellent dry cleaner BUT you have a much higher chance of walking out with your dream dress with your wallet and peace of mind intact than you do at Kleinfelds.

    Here’s their info:

    Phone: (917) 409-5277
    Address: 115 W 29th St, New York, NY 1001

They don’t take appointments so you can walk in whenever you want, but I strongly recommend going mid morning or after lunch time in the middle of the week when you might be the only bride in the store.

I’ve never been to their New York store, but I got my gown at their Los Angeles store and I can’t recommend any salon better than them. The google reviews are pretty consistent with what the LA store is like.

Don’t go there on the weekend; that goes for every bridal shop. You want to deal with the staff when they are bored and ready to help, not exhausted after trying to attend the upteenth customer.

Enjoy your trip to the Big Apple!

Book an appointment at Kleinfeld!!! I went with a $1,500 budget, they treated as if my budget was $15,000 and I found my dream dress for $1,400!!! It was so worth the trip and the experience was one I will never forget!!!

I went to their pop-up shop a week after getting engaged, and walked away with a $2k dress for $200.

See if they are having another pop-up sale, or a trunk sale... or even if you could buy something off the rack (they have a rack of samples/canceled gowns that they sell for less). There are a lot of other places in NYC, but beware taxes.

Also maybe check out or make an appointment at bhldn and lovely bride if you're coming to NYC still, and/or appointments at other places. Good to have backups or places to go within budget.

I'll look into some of those other places as well. Was thinking of also browsing Macy's wedding section, my mom loves that Macy's. I will not be on tv. I used to live in NYC and my parents and I have done the touristy things before there, there's some we hadn't done yet, but we probably won't do too much tourist things in this trip.

I would not do that if you have a strict budget. That’s guaranteeing that you will fall in love with one you can’t afford. When I went shopping I gave the consultant my budget and showed her a dress on the rack and as soon as she said it was higher I said don’t bring it in, bc that would be the one I fell for

Don't do this. Its disrespectful to the consultant by wasting their time if you know you can't afford their dresses.

I wouldn't do it, it sounds like a bad idea to me. I'd go places in budget. Chances are, you'll fall in love with a dress and you won't be able to afford it. Plus you'll have to lie about your budget and that seems weird.
