Keratin treatment for hair?

HRH Mags, on July 16, 2012 at 2:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Hopefully I spelled it correctly. I have heard of this but always been afraid to try it myself. Now I have noticed so many shampoos and such coming out with this so wanted your experiences and opinions. Does it help? Is it harmful? Will it give me cancer? lol thanks in advance! I tend to try and use organic and natural products on a daily basis but on occasion I would like my hair a bit more...tame.

I did a Keratin treatment for my hair last year. It was interesting during the process. She had to put this goop on my hair and then she washed it and straightened it and i wasnt allowed to wash my hair for 2 days after that. Luckily i didnt have to go anywhere because it looked like a grease ball. After that it was awesome for a few months. No frizz, easily managble, and super easy to style. I dont have crazy curly hair but it does have curl to it. Since the treatment is kind of wore off but my hair still syles much better with a blow dryer than it ever did before. Hope this helps.

Thanks Katie, that does help. My hair is kinda curly but mainly just very thick. It can be fun to style but when I want to wear it down....it gets very fluffy fast. My hair could win a prize for the older big hair styles Smiley laugh

Keratin is what the protein in your hair is called. A Keratin treatment helps put the proteins back into your hair. It helps with dryness and frizzyness.

I've done a lot of hair straightening treatments, resulting in varying degrees of damage to my hair (the worst on all levels was Chi straightening - $600 and 6-8 8hrs in a chair). The keratin treatments were the most affordable and also left my hair feeling the best...and they stayed just as long as the others. I did the last one 2 weeks before my wedding, so I'm "due" in August! As for cancer, I guess we will find out, but given that the mixture never really penetrates the skull, I think the risk is pretty low Smiley smile or at least not any higher than the rest of the crap we put on our hair and bodies.

I was thinking about it because I could also compete in any 1980s hairstyle competition. My hair seems to prefer to go sideways and really any direction other than down.

But my hair stylist said it will look weird when it starts growing out, because then you have your own funny roots and straight ends. So I dunno...

I've had this done twice you have to use no sodium and no sulfate shampoo afterwards. It usually last 4-6 months depending on how well you take care of your hair. The shampoo damages my hair making it very dry and frail. It does help with humity. I still had to use a flat iron with the keratin

My mom did a Keratin, and she has extremely coarse curly hair. Her hair is soft and pretty much striaght now. She loves it!!

P1 After (present day, and she is due for another treatment in Aug - so this is 5 months old)

    P2: Her hair naturally

Mrs S...I don't have any growing out problems at all...I am sure it depends on the person, but Mrs. B's mom is a perfect example.

I will say after about 2 months if I want the little wispy hairs by my ears (I guess) straight, I have to do them manually, but I don't think it looks funny if I don't...

Just make sure you go to a professional salon for this. I know Suave just recently came with a kit that you can do at home but I have heard some absolute horror stories about it.

It's something I have been wanting to do for a long time now as my hair gets really frizzy. I just haven't been able to justify the cost to myself.
