So my FH has bought me two rings from Kays a butterfly ring with our birthstones for Christmas and then my engagement ring! Sad to say both rings have had issues. The butterfly chipped and stone came out and then my engagement ring which I have had for a month the diamond came out Smiley sad it's getting fixed but does anyone else have this issue from kays? I've talked to friends who all got from Zales and Jareds don't have this problem. I had it a month and I don't wear it at home. Only when I am out in public or work (which isn't heavy labor work) I am a little upset that we've had this problem with both rings from them.. so we are not getting wedding bands through kays. It upsets me he spends hundreds of dollars there for a ring to break a month later Smiley sad

Buzzfeed article about 8 brides and their issues with Kay's. Pretty horrible.

Both my engagement ring and wedding band are from Kays. Can't comment on the wedding band as I haven't given it to them yet to send out to separate them (it's a diamond enhancer) and size it and match up with the engagement ring...

I've worn my engagement ring for a a year and a half now with no problems with any stones. Annoying that you have to send the rings out for 2 weeks if you need them resized (other jewelry places I know of have days where Jeweler is there and can properly do it within an hour or two)

So far so good for now...hopefully will have no issues when I send out my engagement ring and wedding band.

Jareds owns Kay's and all of Kay's repairs are sent to jareds. Or that's what we were told. My rings are from jareds and I have not had any issues.

In my opinion you should never buy from big stores. They make things in mass, while on ring with be perfect for year another will fall apart. It dosnt matter how much you spend there it just depend on your luck. My engagement ring, both wedding bands where bought online (ebay) and we save a lot of money (not getting a big name attached to it drops the price a lot), all three are exactly as advertised and been appraised for as good and in case of my engagement ring better.

I encourage you to look at etsy and ebay!

Kay and Jared are part of Sterling Jewelers. Zales is part of Zale Corporation. Both are owned by Signet Jewelers. They operate as separate entities. I worked for Zale Corporation when I merger happened two years ago.

Every chain will have issues, and each store will have a different level of service when dealing with those issues. If you don't like the service you're getting, try a different store or try calling corporate customer service. If there's a recurring issue with your jewelry (regardless of cost), contact corporate customer service. 99 times out of 100, they will make it right. Especially if you speak to them rationally and respectfully. They don't want to lose customers.

Sorry to hear about your rings Smiley sad FH steered clear of chain jewelry stores because of their bad reputation. I hope you get it figured out and can have a lovely ring again soon!

Wow I'm sorry to hear this from all of you. FH got my e ring from a small privately owned jeweler and even with all the daily wear at work (I'm a microbiologist and I use my hands a lot lol) my ring is still in perfect shape. I got my wedding band off of etsy and it is ok too though I haven't worn it yet!

Every piece of jewelry my ex bought me from Kay's had to have stones fixed or tightened because it was loose. A ring he got me the stone fell out the day he gave it to me. In hindsight that was probably a little prophetic about our relationship!

FH went to a local Jeweler and designed my ring. Hand picked my diamonds and all. I've had it on for almost 2 1/2 years and have only taken it off a few times. Never had a problem. If a ring is made properly there shouldn't be a problem.

After you get it, I'd take it to get inspected by another jeweler to make sure he got the quality he paid for.

Hippod: My e/wedding ring from Kay's I got on our wedding day, surprise from H. I have already lost 2 diamonds in the halo. 1 in Feb and 1 just the other day, I have to take in this week. And it takes 2-3 weeks to replace. I hope I don't run into them "losing" or "misplacing" it, I love it.

Yikes! Kay's is getting so much bad publicity lately! The issue with the chains is they need SO many pieces manufactured, the quality of the actual ring (forget the stones) is compromised. I know a lot of people say "gold is gold", but HOW that gold is cast into a finished piece is SUPER important, and it's a factor the chains just don't take into consideration like independent stores do. You also have to remember at the chains, you're dealing with sales people, not jewelers. Sorry for your troubles!

FH band is from Kay's, it did take what seemed like forever for his ring to come in. My e-ring is from Zales, and I've had it for about 6 months (just got inspected) so far no issues. I had my e-ring sized twice (weight gain, than loss).
