So my FH has bought me two rings from Kays a butterfly ring with our birthstones for Christmas and then my engagement ring! Sad to say both rings have had issues. The butterfly chipped and stone came out and then my engagement ring which I have had for a month the diamond came out Smiley sad it's getting fixed but does anyone else have this issue from kays? I've talked to friends who all got from Zales and Jareds don't have this problem. I had it a month and I don't wear it at home. Only when I am out in public or work (which isn't heavy labor work) I am a little upset that we've had this problem with both rings from them.. so we are not getting wedding bands through kays. It upsets me he spends hundreds of dollars there for a ring to break a month later Smiley sad

NowASeptMrs - ETA: well shit, I guess they are under the same chain as of last year. Yikes. They weren't always. Original response: Zales isn't owned by Kays as far as I know. I used to work at a different chain owned by Kays and they always said Zales was a competitor, not one of the theirs.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with this. I hope they get it fixed for you, because that us terrible.

I have alot of jewelry from Kay between fh and my.dad. I've never had an issue. I'm sorry this is happening. Did you get the insurance on the rings?

If so you will need to take them back every 6 months to be checked.

Yeah we have the extended plan it's just frustrating when we constantly have problems with them and the people. My ring should be back they said no later than tomorrow but they have had it forever it seems. Smiley sad I like your feedback ladies and opinions on such topic. We will probably look elsewhere when time comes for wedding bands.

I have not gone through a chain store like Kay's, I have always used a local, reputable jeweler. You are more likely to get better quality and service as they are a small business that wants to satisfy their customers. The big box stores generally do not care about customer service since they will never be without customers.

I have had my engagement ring (from Kay's) for about 2 years and I have never had an issue with it. I always take it in every 6 months for the inspection, and it always comes back fine.

I'm so sorry to hear this is happening to you! It sounds very frustrating.

My FH got my ring from Jared and we had problems with them sizing it. So I've had two e rings and the first one came in in the wrong size. My FH proposed with it and I was so excited I shoved it on my finger and wore it for a few hours until my finger swelled so bad I needed lots of soap to remove it. The next day we took it to the store and they said it was one size smaller so they sized it up. Then it was too big so they sized it down. Then they needed to go up a quarter of a size because that was too small. And mind you these sizes are what they kept recommending and I thought they knew what they were doing so I trusted them. After that the band became so narrow due to all of the size changes it was about to break. So they wanted $400 for more white gold to make it thicker. We gave in and had that done because I didn't want it to break. And then we decided to upgrade my ring and that one came in the wrong size again and they had to size it up a half a size. But I've had no size issues after that. We decided to get our wedding bands elsewhere. The whole point of my story is Jared and Kay are owned by the same people so I don't trust them.

Sorry you're having problems with your rings! Hope it gets resolved soon. I read about the lawsuits against them and they're crazy! You should look into them.

My ring came from a local company. We looked at all the big name stores and felt that none of the sales people were really listening to what I wanted. I wanted a gemstone ring and they'd all show me 1-2 and then push me towards the diamonds. The local company was great and was able to show me 10x more gemstone rings.

A tiny diamond fell out if my kays ring ... Literally 2 weeks after FH proposed, but they fixed it and even rushed it for me so I could get it back before I went back to school. Definitely make sure you're getting it checked 6 moths to keep the warranty active ... But my friend is a jeweler and said that stones are more likely to fall out when the ring is new because the sones haven't had time to "settle in"

Mine came from Diamonds Direct. It's a chain, but a small that's only in a few states. The quality is amazing especially for the price. And the staff is amazing. We looked at several of the big chains and just didn't feel like they really listened to what we wanted.

Jewelry chains are like fast food places. You'll never get the quality they tout.

And quite often you can get a better deal at a local mom & pop shop anyway.

Never, ever buy jewelry from a chain.

It might be worth having another jeweler take a quick look at it after you get it back just to confirm everything is okay.

FH got my ring from Jared. I just got it cleaned and inspected yesterday. It took less than 5 minutes and it never left my sight. Where are you guys going that you have to lesve your ring there for an extended period of time? (For cleaning that is, I understand not all locations do in house repairs). Anywho, no issues so far with any of the diamonds coming loose or falling out. Hopefully that keeps up!

I don't really have experience with Kay, but both of my parents are really into jewelry and both stay far away from chains. They usually have deals that are too good to be true and you run into situations where the quality is poor. My e-ring is from a family jeweler. They are usually able to find you exactly what you want (if they don't have it, they will find it), their pricing is better, and their staff is much more knowledgeable.

My engagement ring and wedding band are both from Kays. I did not have an issue with getting them both resized nor any other issues at this point. We decided to go with a chain store because my husband is military and we will be moving around quite a bit. There is usually a Kay within driving distance just about anywhere you go. I don't like the fact that I had to ship my rings out for two weeks to get resized, but everything came back perfect.

I have a ton of Kay jewelry.

(Watch, necklace, tennis bracelet, charm bracelet, earrings, and now my e-ring!) FH has a charge card there, lol. I haven't ever had a problem.

BUT FSIL had her ring upgraded two weeks ago and a stone already fell out Smiley sad they are replacing the whole set for free.

I had an issue with my ring from Kay's too.... A diamond fell out after a week and 75% of the diamonds were actually lose! They finally gave me a new ring altogether and I've had it for a while with no issues. Good luck!

My e-ring is from Kay (LiVian Chocolate Collection) I've had 4 small diamonds "pop" out. The first 2 times they sent the ring to their "local jeweler for the repairs, each time took about a week. This last time I looked down and 2 diamonds were gone. Took it back again and this time they are replacing the ring and ordering in my size (size 10) instead of sizing up. I should have it back in 2 months but in the meantime am still wearing the "broken" one.
