Just when i think I'm done buying wedding stuff.. Recommendations needed

Allie, on August 19, 2019 at 4:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I'm getting married in Huntsville Alabama at a mountain venue. The ceremony will be outside by a waterfall. I want to buy bug repellent wipes for the guests. I found some options on Amazon but just wanted to see if anyone had any better recommendations. Would it be better just to have a small basket of spray cans? Also, did you buy mini tissue packets for your guests? 11 days to go!

Off Deep Woods is really great for not just mosquitos, but it helps keep away other pests as well.

I was going to buy mini tissues but didn't! Our venue bathroom had some, so that was enough. I think the wipes are better than spray when you are in nice clothes. Could you have citronella candles burning as well to help?

    No to the tissue packets.

For the bug repellant I would buy maybe two cans. I would, however see if you can spread the word amongst family and friends about the bugs so they can come prepared if they have sensitive skin or allergies to those types of products.

As a guest, I would maybe use the wipes but I would not use the spray. I wouldn’t want to get it on my nice clothes or smell like bug repellent. I am not sure how strong the smell is with the wipes, but at least with those it would only be on your skin and not your clothes.

We will be outside in May in Mississippi so I was just going to do bug spray; I didn't even think about wipes! I will probably do a mix of both now so guests have the option. Thanks for the idea!

I've seen where some people use essential oils instead of bug repellent! I think there are sprays and lotions that guests may prefer to use in their nice clothes.

I had a couple cans of bug spray, both the good stuff and the friendly stuff. I saw wipes and was tempted by them but then I figured people wouldn’t want to touch a bug spray-y wipe while they were eating dinner. I had the cans in 2 baskets along the way to the bar (tucked a little to the sides) so I knew people would see them 🤣

They also make the clip on fan things, I think OFF. Not sure if they're too pricey and how much of a radius they cover but could be another option so people don't have to apply anything in there nice clothes.

I'm so incredibly jealous that you're getting married by a waterfall!

Agree, we are purchasing citronella candles as well. Our venue is off the river.

Does the venue spray for bugs? Or do some other kind of pest control to keep you and your guests happy? Might be worth asking them before you pickup bug spray.

Aren’t there special candles or options so that guests don’t have to actually spray or wipe themselves with repellent? It just seems a little tough if guests are dressed for a wedding and wearing perfume, only to spray or wipe it with bug repellent. I’m in SoCal and don’t know much about mosquitoes Lol! But out of the choices, I would choose against any sprays.

I very much relate to your title, haha. Not sure if it would be a total budget buster, but you could also consider having a few of each options? Maybe a couple spray, some wipes, and some bracelets. And even the candles for safe measure? That way guests can choose which they would feel more comfortable using. Personally, I wouldn't want to use wipes or spray if I'm all dressed up because I don't like the smell. But at the same time, if bugs were bad enough, I would use what is offered. I have used some of the little bracelets though and they do seem to work nicely! Not sure if the wipes would be more cost effective though.

Be very careful if you decide to go with sprays. If any of your guests have asthma, this could be a trigger for them. We can't use any kind of aerosol around my daughter because of it. We use the bracelets, which you can find on amazon for pretty cheap.

Tell me about it...you feel like you are bleeding money with the smaller details. With ours near the river in Roswell GA, we are getting the citronella candles and camping fans to assist with the heat lol.

Hey Allie! For my outdoor wedding we're using "Thermacell". They sell it on Amazon. They even come in cute designs so they don't look out of place or anything
