Junior on Wedding Invitations

Lala, on July 3, 2016 at 12:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hello!

I've been reading conflicting accounts on how to address invitations for something with the junior suffix.

According to the Chicago Manual of Style, as of 1993 the proper way to address someone would be as follow:

Mr. John Smith Jr.

While this is grammatically correct, I don't know if it is wedding correct! Which is the proper way to address someone who has "junior" in their name? Is it any of the following:

-Mr. John Smith Jr.

-Mr. John Smith Junior

-Mr. John Smith, Jr.

-Mr. John Smith, Junior

Thank you so much!

    Question #2: Which is correct?

-Mr John Smith Jr. and Mrs. Jane Smith

    or

-Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Smith Jr.

You can always put the wife's name first (which is my preference anyways). This would avoid the issue: Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Smith Jr.

    Question #2:

Mr John Smith Jr. and Mrs. Jane Smith

is correct. It doesn't separate anyone's name from their surname, and it puts the husband's name first as is correct for formal situations (the wife's name comes first in informal situations).
