June in Texas

Private User, on April 10, 2013 at 4:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 32

If you live in Texas you know its hot... very hot, even more so if you are from South Texas! I have a June wedding coming up and starting to get nervous!! We are having people coming in from over, cooler parts of the US, and I am afraid they will be DYING in the TX heat! Yes our wedding is outdoors in my grandparents garden, with lots of shade and gazebos, but do you guys have any ideas on keeping guests cool? Oh oh we are having a snow cone machine! lol just thought it would be a cute thing for kids and adults!

Love the snow cone machine!!!! Great idea. Can you do mini fans for all the guests as like a favor? Get a couple huge fans to circulate the air?

Hey there! I am also getting married in June in Texas but I was not as brave as you to do it outdoors! Wow! I would definitely have refreshments and some fans available (hand held or electronic if it can be done). The snow cone machine--awesome idea!!

You can rent misting fans. My mom has an event venue in Katy, TX and she always has a few of those around when outdoor weddings are being held there.

You can rent giant fans and outdoor airconditioners, have program fans, keep LOTS of ice cold refreshments on hand.

What time are you getting married? 3-5pm is like the hottest part of the day. It only really cools off at like 9PM. Even when it is dark, you could be soaked in sweat because of the lingering heat.

If you haven't printed programs yet, I think you can get them printed on paper fans.

Also, if you have a wedding website, I would put some information on there on how to dress for the heat for those who aren't from the area.

Finally, would suggest having water available at the ceremony so that no one gets sick.

Give them cold water to drink. Alcohol will make them sick and sodas will too if its hot enough. Give them fans to keep themselves cool.

If i were you, i would have it inside, but if you insist on an outdoor venue, just make sure your guests are cool. Especially newborn babies and elderly people.

We have the snow cones, fans, hand held, wooden/silk, some parasols. I was definitely thinking about the fans, but thought they would be too harsh/loud? Misting fans.. after a while wont it get things too wet? The ceremony starts at 11am, and brunch/high tea will start right after. I want to get it done early in the day so my hunny and I can enjoy the hot weather at the beach later that day!!

We will be having tons of water(cold), teas, lemonade varieties and lots of shade. Also hoping since it is by the lake we will have a decent breeze to help keep cool too.

Water, water, and more water. You may want to emphasize to those not from Texas how the weather can be. I would even put historical data for weather on your website (if you have one) for now and as it gets closer update it with real time weather predictions.

ETA: Do you have a weather backup?

Gasp at outdoor wedding in TX. I'd be nervous too cause I sweat a lot. Those from the cooler area might not mind the change of temp. So everything is outside? Is there a tent? Doesn't some tent have mist fans or something?

I live in Az and I am having a outdoor ceremony in may.. I'm making program fans so my guest can fan themselves.. Also having water bottles or something with water so guest can have something cold to drink.. My ceremony starts at 5 pm so it shouldn't be to hot outside.

@Cece - I'm going to a wedding in Katy on the 26th -- wonder if it's at your mom's place Smiley smile

I agree with everyone about water. It's going to be quite a shock to those not from here -- my brother got married outside (reception inside) in July south of Houston and our family from upstate New York were not well prepared for just how bad the heat and humidity are. But everyone made it and they had a lovely wedding Smiley smile

High temp: 90 Low temp: 75. Its usually pretty breezy. I'm not worried about those of us who live here, we all know what its like. We have a total of like 10 guests that are from OH and NY. The place has lots of shade, so no one will be in direct sun, plus hoping to get ppls out by 3pm! hahaha! We are a get to the point have some fun and go kinda peoples! Party continues on the beach so I think it will turn out ok! lol

Make sure you have tons of water and other drinks -- like double or triple what you would expect people to drink!

Yikes, sorry but i would be scared to stay outside for too long, i lived in Deep South Tx for a few years and could never get used to it. High 70's is way too hot for me. I went to a wedding in AZ last Aug and couldn't stay outside for too long unless i was in a bikini or like shorts and a tank top. FH also gets nosebleeds in the heat.

I think having the misters will help a lot and won't get anything wet, if it does the heat will evaporate it quite quickly. But definitely have a tent or something to protect your guests from possible sunburn.

We're doing July: outdoor ceremony, indoor reception.

We will do wedding program fans and the venue has ice cold water available for guests as soon as they arrive. We also planned the ceremony under a shadey tree.
