June in Texas

If you live in Texas you know its hot... very hot, even more so if you are from South Texas! I have a June wedding coming up and starting to get nervous!! We are having people coming in from over, cooler parts of the US, and I am afraid they will be DYING in the TX heat! Yes our wedding is outdoors...

If you live in Texas you know its hot... very hot, even more so if you are from South Texas! I have a June wedding coming up and starting to get nervous!! We are having people coming in from over, cooler parts of the US, and I am afraid they will be DYING in the TX heat! Yes our wedding is outdoors in my grandparents garden, with lots of shade and gazebos, but do you guys have any ideas on keeping guests cool? Oh oh we are having a snow cone machine! lol just thought it would be a cute thing for kids and adults!

    We are having ours in July in Montgomery. Outside ceremony, indoor reception. I am worried about the heat too, but we plan on having program fans and keeping it short. Fortunately most of our guests are local,so they know what to expect. Having your wedding early in the day is a great idea!

    Barn fans and misters worked for us in TX heat.

    It sounds like you will be fine. I would just make sure to start on time or as close as possible.

    In addition to fans/misters etc. I would have sunscreen that guests can use as well. If they start sweating they'll need to reapply throughout the day.

    Lol not sure but I used to live in Houston and Houston in June was unbearable! Nothing helps but going in the A/C lol...

    Outdoor weddings in August are worse. Trust me. Agree on tent or tarp for shade over ceremony area. Mist fans do not get you wet and work great. Not keeping your guests waiting in the heat and if possible do not let them sit down until 10-15 minutes before. A/c waiting area with cold refreshments. Be on time.

    A born and raised Houstonian and a June bridesmaid that was miserable in the heat.

    Lots of water im from east texas and am typically at a wedding every other summer and have never had a problem now I live in rainy seattle and hate it im sure you will be fine

    1. "Comfort station" setup at or near the sign-in for pre-ceremony use: bug spray, paper fans, iced water bottles or a dispenser of iced water w/ lemon, lime or raspberry slices cups, and a tray of rolled, a tray of chilled damp washclothes w/ tongs.

    2. 'Dip Your Feet' station, an item female friends especially enjoy, we use a 4' galvanized oblong tub & 2 benches on either side, we add 25# ice, a few floating flowers, & a drop of bleach when setting up.

    3. Consider how much humidity is naturally in your area before deciding on the type of electric fan, set them up to create cross-drafts. Mister fans don't work well for us as well as the 30 we've purchased at Sam's that are relatively quiet and also create a strong breeze. The large box-type swamp fans that can be rented make tons of noise and aren't as effective as the smaller ones we use.

    4.Let guests know it'll be a backyard wedding prior to their arrival so they dress comfortably.

    An observation about AC rentals for tents: a semi-truck AC setup was rented for one of our August events last year, the rental was over $10K, top-of-the-line equipment from a reputable, experienced DFW vendor. The unit was running for 24 hours prior to the evening event, the temp never got below 90 degrees in our walled 60x90 tent.

    If you do rent a tent ask about the vinyl type, ours is 18-gauge which does decrease the outside temp by 10 degrees+.
