We have been targeting Fri, July 3 for our wedding since our engagement (Friday discounts, our anniv will always be right before a holiday). We found our perfect venue last weekend and when I spoke to the lady there, she told me July 3 was available. She sent me an email a few hours later telling me it's not available but because she felt so bad about getting my hopes up, she would give us the Friday rate if we have our wedding on Sat, July 4 as well as a complimentary champagne toast. I'm slowly coming around to the idea, and have verified that our closest friends and family will still be able to come. But I'm curious as to if any of you ladies have any opinions on this. Thanks!

The people you love will be there. And you will always have your anniversary off to spend together.

Many people have long standing plans on holidays, including July 4th. I would expect a lower attendance for that date. If you are ok with that, and the date works for your most important guests, then I don't see an issue.

If your guests can come, go for it!

I would go for it! A Saturday and everyone will be off anyway! Score. It's not like it's Christmas or Thanksgiving. That would make it mroe difficult.

If I can ruin people's valentine's day then you can certainly interrupt 4th of July ^.^

Definitely do it! I would love to attend a holiday wedding. It's not like you're having it on Christmas day! Just make sure to give plenty of notice so people don't make other plans - send STDs ASAP!

Well, let me start by saying that it is your wedding, and ultimately when it comes down to it the people who want to be there, will be there.

I personally would not have a wedding on that date in my area because the 4th of July is HUGE in Boston, tons of road closures, events, etc. Your venue may be giving you a great deal, but what about the rest of your vendors, they may charge holiday rates? A lot of people have 4th of July traditions, so it is something to take into consieration. On the plus side, you could have an AWESOME red, white and blue theme. Smiley smile

@BB, I was thinking that actually. since we aren't having the wedding in downtown DC, or anywhere near, for that matter, we won't be affected by holiday traffic, if we were the whole weekend would be a shitshow, our venue is about 40 miles from DC. I have already contacted the photographers and DJ (yes, I've done things backwards) and we're good to go on that front. the only thing that I'm worried about is the hotels, but I think being that far from the city, we shouldn't have trouble with getting blocks if we start the process this weekend. i never start planning for my 4th of july until late June, but i don't know if others do!

The earlier you call the hotel the better, that way you can lock in rates with them! this all sounds good though and I bet it will be really awesome! you could have a grand sparkler exit, how fitting! ah so exciting =)

As everyone else has said, the people who care about you will not mind. Maybe just send your STDs a little earlier in case people make plans.

Also, fireworks would be a huge plus Smiley smile

Personally, I am always looking for something to do on July 4th.

I think the only issue would be if people have other plans made before they learn of your date.

AFAIK most "shore points" don't get booked until winter, so if you get STDs out soon, you will probably avoid that problem.

Holiday weddings always have some drawbacks, but I think that is the best holiday of the year for a wedding!

ETA: Everything I said applies equally to July 3rd, so yeah- 4th all the way!

Fireworks AND a discount? I'm there! As others said, as long as you don't mind if some people can't make it and your vendors won't charge you extra, do it!

Go crazy on red, white and blue... even people who think it's weird will like the fact that you are aware of the holiday and sticking to it

plus most of the family bbq start around 2pm... so mostly done by 5-6pm anyway.

I'm actually with Emily on this one...a lot of people have set plans on holidays. Be prepared for some declines.
