July 3rd vs July 4th

Lara, on October 15, 2014 at 2:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 48

We have been targeting Fri, July 3 for our wedding since our engagement (Friday discounts, our anniv will always be right before a holiday). We found our perfect venue last weekend and when I spoke to the lady there, she told me July 3 was available. She sent me an email a few hours later telling me it's not available but because she felt so bad about getting my hopes up, she would give us the Friday rate if we have our wedding on Sat, July 4 as well as a complimentary champagne toast. I'm slowly coming around to the idea, and have verified that our closest friends and family will still be able to come. But I'm curious as to if any of you ladies have any opinions on this. Thanks!

I'm confused. The reason you chose Friday was because stuff will be cheaper. She's giving it to you cheaper on the more convenient day. What are you asking?

I guess I'm just asking if it's weird to have your wedding on a holiday...

It wouldn't bother me as a guest to attend a July 4 wedding. What type of wedding and venue are you looking into? Is it going to be really formal or sort of casual? You could incorporate sparklers if your venue allows it. That'd be really cool!

My grandparents were married on July 4th. Every year our 4th of July celebration included their anniversary party and they loved it. They were married 60+ years until my gma passed away 2 years ago. Just think...Every year on your anniversary you will have fireworks to celebrate!

There are people who are getting married on NYE around here, the day after christmas, etc. If your guests are into it, and you like it, why would anyone else's opinion matter?

@Kimberly, thanks! I guess that's the main thing I'm worried about, but 4th of July isn't like thanksgiving or something. The venue is a country club, beautiful gardens and the wedding itself will be on the more casual side (groom won't be wearing a jacket, etc). I totally thought of the sparkler thing!

July 4th all the way! I'm biased partially because that's my birthday. But, it's easy to remember, and you will always have fireworks for your anniversary.

@Janeen, you're absolutely right, they don't matter! But very many times, you ladies think of things that I don't (which is why I love these forums), so I guess I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

We did a wedding on July 4. Huge turn out -- 220 people.

You are getting a great deal, go for it! 4th of July is not a big holiday for most people so I think it should be fine.

I say go ahead and do it, even though I had holiday (ESPECIALLY summer holiday) weekend wedding as I usually like to go to my family's cabin and having a wedding right in the middle of the weekend usually puts a damper on that for me...but if your nearest and dearest are saying that they will be there then go for it!

We're doing ours on the 3rd but had no problem doing it on the 4th if we needed to. Have fun!

I probably wouldn't go... but that's just me. Do what you want. The important people will have plenty of notice, and wouldn't miss it for the world. I have to be by the water on 4th of July. That's just my preference. Now, if you're having a beach wedding..... LMAO.
