July 3 weekday wedding

tk, on December 9, 2012 at 10:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

I want to get some feedback about having a wedding on Wed, July 3. I know it's a weekday which can be odd but does it make it better given that the next day is a holiday?

Only July 3, I plan to have the ceremony at 4:30pm but if local folks don't want to take the day off, they can simply join in at the ceremony the starts at 6:30pm

Doing this vs a July 4 event saves me 15% of the total cost. What do you guys think?

Persoally, I wouldn't do it, and I'll tell you why. A lot of people take family vacations around the 4th so you night not have a lot of guest. Generally I find major holidays weddings always don't work for the best. And like you said maybe a lot won't be able to take time off to come to the ceremony since a lot of people will already be off work.

It's totally up to you, but like I said a lot of people will be on vacations.

Also Welcome! Would you be so kind to change your profile picture to something other then the rings so we can remember you? Thank you! Smiley smile

IDK.. Would depend on your guests. Do you know if they always take 4th vacations yearly. Most will not cut out early because some companies require you work your full day to get holiday pay, so you may have only immediate family at the ceremony.

I made sure when I set my date that it would not be around a holiday.... Easter for me. Good luck!!

I wouldn't do it either. One thing is travel, family vacations and such. Another problem is am Wednesday early ceremony. We would basically have to take a day off to attend the wedding, even if it's local. If you have many OOT guests, they will have to take more days off, and traveling around holidays is more expensive.

I think if you're going to do it on a Wednesday it should be an evening wedding. Depending on how far local people have to come even 6:30 could be hard after working. I'm getting married that weekend and still run the risk of not having as many people come to my wedding as a random weekend, and we're getting married on a Saturday. You know your guests best, but I would have a hard time making it to a Wednesday wedding at 4:30. Would you save money doing the 5th? I think more people are likely to take off that day than the 3rd.

Our date is July 5th, and we did it for the same reason you are talking about, but no one seems perturbed about a Friday night wedding (starting at 7pm). We invite a lot of out of state guests, but the wedding is in Austin, a city most people seem excited about visiting, however, we also know some people can't because of other holiday plans, and we're fine with that. We are actually counting on about 90 people saying no (inviting 290)...so yeah, holiday weekend can be good if you wanted only the guests that really want to come anyway!

I am booked every year on July 3d and most of the Thursdays and Fridays before holiday weekends. I'd just make it later.

It's always so expensive to travel around the 4th of July :-/. But this could be a great way of being courteous and extending invites to many people since only the people who really really want to come will be there.

Our wedding will be on Friday July 5th and we haven't received any negative feedback about having a Friday wedding during the holiday weekend. We are making sure to have the wedding start in the evening so that people who have to work will still be able to make it to the ceremony.

I would do it, just make it later for those that may have to work that day. I had a sunday wedding and I still had a few comments about it but I totally ignored them, since I was going with what i could afford. lol

Sandy R. gets me! Oh no! Buhahahahah
